Following the huge success of the first four volumes of Prisoner Cell Block H on DVD, the iconic Australian ‘women behind bars’ TV series continues with the 11th October 2010 release of the eight-disc boxed set, Prisoner Cell Block H: Volume 5, courtesy of Shock Entertainment and FremantleMedia Enterprises.

Including 32 episodes (129 to 160) previously unavailable on DVD in the UK, amounting to over 25 hours of classic ‘Prisoner’ action, this long-awaited collectors’ edition release is a must-have for fans of the cult series that has become one of the best remembered and most watched Australian soaps of all time.

This time when the prison gates close and the cell doors slam at Wentworth Detention Centre not all the women are on the inside, as a newly established work release scheme sees many of Wentworth’s finest detainees temporarily released into the community with dramatic and calamitous results. Violent scraps, embezzlement, rape and baby snatching are just some of the lamentable incidents that occur as the inmates take full advantage of their new found ‘freedom’.

Meanwhile, back behind bars it’s business as usual for the girls with Bea ‘helping’ one of the inmates by crushing her hand in a steam press, while some stolen money and a bet on the greyhounds end in murder. The drama heightens even further when some flick knives arrive in the post, there’s a surprise birthday party for Lizzie, a deadly sniper targets Tracey in the prison garden, burgers laced with glass are served up at the barbecue, Judy goes on the run dressed as a policewoman and there’s an unexpected marriage proposal.

Featuring some of the show’s most memorable storylines and most popular characters, Prisoner Cell Block H: Volume 5 is an essential collection of classic episodes from a key era in the series’ history.

Prisoner Cell Block H: Volume 5 (cert. 15) will be released on DVD (£34.99) by Shock Entertainment and FremantleMedia Enterprises on 11th October 2010.
