THIS WEEK @ CULT LABS: 11 MARCH 2011

OH MY…

It’s been a hell of a week. I’m physically and mentally exhausted and I’m not sure what I need more: a sleep or a gin and tonic! I feel a bit like a creepy psychotic chimp has been meddling with my brain. Which is funny really, since Cult Labs has been all about the creepy psychotic chimps since Phenomena was released on Monday (Arrow Video: Blu-ray and DVD). This new release of Argento’s classic creating a real buzz (sorry) which you can read all about on Sam’s blog or why not check out the official mini-forum?

Anyways, the creepy psychotic monkey has had one good effect on me: I’ve revamped the newsletter! Send all feedback to the official newsletter thread and let me know what you think!

ALSO OUT NOW

Also out this week is banshee-horror, Damned By Dawn (Momentum Pictures: DVD). The film takes a breather from the usual movie monsters, favouring the mythical banshee over zombies and werewolves. This was a huge crowd-pleaser at Film4 FrightFest so, if you weren’t lucky enough to be there, get your mitts on this DVD! For reviews and more check out the blog or chat about the film on its official thread!

THERE’S SOMETHING GOING ON AT THE LABORATORY

It’s been a thrilling week over at the Cult Labs forums. There have been leaks, floods and dam bursts but all in the name of bringing you some excellent films on DVD and Blu-ray. There has also been chatter galore. So I’m going to put my feet up, have a cuppa, and tell you all about the threads that have caught my eye!

SHAM031/SHAM201 – Cannibal Holocaust

Well, it was never going to stay secret for long, was it? Shameless are working with Ruggero Deodato on an all-new edit of his most infamous film, Cannibal Holocaust. The announcement has met with enthusiasm from fans, as has the news that Deodato is overseeing production of a new HD master from which the DVD and Blu-ray will be produced. Excited by this news? Let us know what you think!

Arrow Video – Obsession

The news that Arrow are releasing Brian De Palma’s Obsession on DVD and Blu-ray has spread like wildfire on the Labs. This is a film with a lot of fans so the news that it will be getting the Arrow Video treatment has got a lot of people excited. Share your thoughts on this news over on the forum!

DON’T LOOK NOW 1973 Nicolas Roeg

In celebration of the forthcoming Don’t Look Now Blu-ray, Reaper has set up this thread. Don’t Look Now is one of my favourite films of all time but, apparently, some of the Cult Labs young ‘uns don’t like it… Hmmm… Methinks I shall put on my favourite red coat and stand in the corners of their room until they give in! Love it or loathe it, share your thoughts on this thread!

Just watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3…

… but did you love it like dream demon or did you think it was a big pile o’ poop? It’s certainly a film that divides horror fans. I myself am still not sure if I like it or not. What do you think?

If you’re heading over to the forums, be sure to check out the forum rules and pop into the new members thread to say hello if you haven’t already. If you ever feel intimidated by the behaviour of any Cult Labs members, tell one of the mods in strictest confidence: that’s me, Reaps, Stephen, Nos and bizarre_eye.
