THIS WEEK @ CULT LABS: 10 JUNE 2011

SO MUCH AWESOMENESS…

… I can barely contain myself!  The sun is out, I have an ice lolly and, to top it off, this, seriously, is one of the most exciting newsletters I have ever written. There are awesome titles (including news of a certain replicant hitcher turned hobo), awesome competitions and some seriously legendary bits and bobs! Woo!

So what am I going to be watching over the next few days? Well, come Monday I’m going to be watching the excellent Exile (FremantleMedia Enterprises: DVD) starring the fab John Simm and Jim Broadbent. You can take a peek behind the scenes of this brilliant thriller on the blog or chatter about it on the official thread! There are some other brill titles out next week too but I’ll get to them in a sec if you stay with me!

ALSO OUT NEXT WEEK

Besides Exile, next week also sees the release of Pervert! (Arrow Video: DVD). This classic skin-flick follows James who has come out to his father’s dusty ranch in an obscure corner of the desert only to find that his dad has lost his mind. With cast members dropping like flies and flies unzipping at every opportunity, James has to work out whether his father is icing the locals while trying to keep a procession of local girls satisfied.

HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN

Hobo With a Shotgun starring the replicant hitcher himself, Rutger Hauer is heading to UK cinemas courtesy of Momentum Pictures on 15 July 2011, followed by releases on DVD and Blu-ray. When an ageing Hobo (Hauer) jumps from a freight car in a new city he finds himself trapped in an urban hell, an anarchic world overrun by murderers, rapists, paedophiles, petty crooks, prostitutes and corrupt cops. Sickened by what he sees, the Hobo decides to administer a bit of justice – one shell at a time!

After watching this last night I will, hand-on-heart, say it’s the best film of 2011, and guess where you can go for all your Hobo news? That’s right: Cult Labs! We have the amazing official hubsite and the official forum so what are you waiting for? Get your hobo on!

EXTRA COMP: THE TWILIGHT ZONE

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call… The Twilight Zone.

Are you a budding film reviewer? Do you want the chance to win a copy of The Twilight Zone: Season 2 in all its beautiful HD glory? If the answer  is “yes,” then we have the comp for you! To find out the details head on over here, where Kyle has been good enough to lay out the rules! Good luck!

THERE’S SOMETHING GOING ON AT THE LABORATORY

See? Told you there was much awesomeness! And there’s more to come so don’t go anywhere! Hmmm… It’s got to coffee-break-time and I have neither a coffee nor a biscuit. While I go foraging for both, why don’t I show you what’s caught my eye this week?

The Kentucky Fried Movie: Which is your favourite artwork panel?

Nos wants to know what your favourite artwork panel is for the forthcoming Arrow Video release of The Kentucky Fried Movie so he’s set up this poll! Whether you want to vote, or just have a gander at some of the most spectacular artwork I’ve seen in a while, head on over!

The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) – Rejected by the BBFC

So the BBFC has banned The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) outright and unless you’ve been living in a cave, I’m sure I’m not the first person to mention it to you. If you’d like a reasoned and intelligent debate on this, head on over to this thread. Do you agree with the BBFC’s reasons for the ban, or do you think they’re drawing undue attention to a film very few people would have watched anyway? Let us know your thoughts…

The Doctor Who Thread

With the mid-season break now upon us, what are your thoughts? Did the revelations stun you or had you guessed? Do you like where the series is heading? There are a lot of fans on Cult Labs so for a good chinwag, pop over here!

L.A. Noire

It’s one of the biggest game releases so far this year so what do you think of L.A. Noire? Best game ever or can’t understand all the fuss? Whatever your thoughts, share them here!

If you’re heading over to the forums, be sure to check out the forum rules and pop into the new members thread to say hello if you haven’t already. If you ever feel intimidated by the behaviour of any Cult Labs members, tell one of the mods in strictest confidence: that’s me, Reaps, Stephen, Nos and bizarre_eye.

KYLE’S COMP CORNER

In addition to the special TZ review comp, Kyle has also set up a weekly comp where you have the chance to win a copy of Eaters: Rise of the Dead (Chelsea Films: DVD)! To be in with a shot, head on over to the Comp Corner now! Good luck!
