Revenge films are the pressure cookers of the movie world. No other genre piles the stress upon it’s central character like a tale of blood ravaged vengeance. Think about it… It’s rarely just the single pivotal event that pushes the hero’s swingometer into the red zone.

His military or police background will have already caused some background damage to his impulse control, so the murder of his entire family/squad/crew is perhaps only a catalyst for his rampage. Throw in some police negligence or apathy, mayve an uncaring attitude among friends or the neighbourhood and a violent stew starts to cook.
