1980 was the year that audiences were shocked not by one, but by two of the scariest horror films of all time. First there was Kubrick’s The Shining (see the last part) and then there was The Changeling. Directed by Peter Medak (Species 2) and supposedly based on events experienced by the writer, this film has gone down as one of the most terrifying ghost tales ever.

For those who have yet to see the film, the plot revolves around Dr. John Russell (played by George C. Scott who’s best known for his role in Dr Strangelove) – a recently widowed man who moves into an old, empty house. Empty that is, except for a horrifying poltergeist presence! Who’s ghost is it and what does it want? As the movie unfolds, so does the mystery and the horror!

A made-for-TV movie that was sold as an unofficial sequel followed 7 years later, in the form of Lamberto Bava’s (Demons, Macabre) Until Death. This cash-in proved to be fun but ultimately a big let down. Then again, how can anything follow such an incredible classic?!

The hit ghost thriller, The Pact has very much in common with The Changeling. Both revolve around a haunted house, spooky goings on, recently killed family and a plot that will keep you glued to the TV, sitting on the edge of your seat and your heart beating and pulsing a thousand times per second.

Break-out horror movie smash of the year that has been electrifying hardened genre fans and non-horror fans alike, “The Pact” combines the supernatural terrors of “Paranormal Activity” with the tense atmospherics of a serial killer thriller to create a unique, modern-day take on the classic ghost story.
