I've not seen this before. The killer Santa plot is enough to draw me in for a copy. It sounds like sordid festive fun - and the perfect antidote to the usual seasonal tosh... (cough) Jingle All The Way.

Christmas story by Bob Clark is a terrific traditional Christmas film.

It feels more real and honest than a lot of the cloying syrup that's wheeled out and you can tell that Clark directed horror pictures as well. There's a little edge of malice and the grotesque in the film to balance out the yuletide cheer. One moment that springs to mind is when a kid gets his tongue stuck to a frozen lamp post.

A world apart from Jingle All The Way.

I agree - the honesty and slightly dark humour make the sentimental moments so much more appreciable. I watched it for the for the first time last Christmas, actually.

It's A Wonderful Life is another seasonal favourite of mine. Quite like the Will Ferrell vechile Elf, too - not least because of the Zooey Deschanel.

Does Gremlins count as a Christmas film? Love the black humour of that one.
