Battle royale: Parent's day

Arrow Video’s Battle Royale Limited Edition DVD and Blu-Ray will be released on 13th December 2010. The news that hasn’t been revealed until now is that this release will also come with an exclusive all-new comic book:
BATTLE ROYALE: PARENTS’ DAY

A previous year, a previous Battle Royale. Class 3E from Zentsuji High School has been chosen for the year’s game of carnage. However, two students, Takashi and Tomomi, have found out in advance that they are to be entered into the program and have planned an escape. As they go on the run in their home city, who can they trust and what fate awaits them for daring to break the rules?

BATTLE ROYALE: PARENT’S DAY is an original, exclusive 32-page comic book written by Stefan Hutchinson and Barry Keating (‘DAY OF THE DEAD: DESERTION‘ and ‘DEMONS 3‘) and illustrated by STEPH STAMB (‘SILENT HILL‘). BATTLE ROYALE: PARENT’S DAY is available ONLY in the Arrow DVD and Blu-ray Limited Edition release of BATTLE ROYALE.

Both format releases feature brand new restored high definition transfers of both the Theatrical Cut and Director’s Cut, brand new subtitle translations, limited edition packaging numbered and a whole host of new and exclusive extra features.

Here's a quote from Barry Keating and Stef Hutchinson, the writers behind the new Battle Royale comic book:

"These books are always a collaborative effort, and really stemmed from our work earlier in the year on Day of the Dead: Desertion. When we found out Arrow was gearing up to release a Battle Royale special edition we wanted in.

The result of that pursuit is what you’re going to see - a rip-roaring and violent tale that takes place in this twisted universe. Stefan came up with a story that pulls zero punches, and with Steph Stamb bringing it to life on the page, we’re just really eager to see what you guys - the fans - think of it."

If any members have questions about the new comic, feel free to ask...

Pity the comic was not done Japanese style ie. Backwards (from right to left not left to right).

With everything else in the package being left to right, I don't think it would have worked. Besides, even though it ties in to a Japanese film, it's still a UK comic. My personal preference is still left to right anyway, even on translated manga, simply because the words we read are still left-to-right, and having the panels move opposite that doesn't work for me.

Also, not everybody knows that Japanese comics are right-to-left, so the average person reading it wouldn't know this and would probably spoil the book before realising!

:)

I have just finished reading Partents Day and really liked it. I was a bit worried that such a short comic might be a bit unsatisfying, but the short story worked really well.

It's equally as good as the comic in the Arrow Day of the Dead, which I liked a lot too.

I just read this story last night and wanted to say "great job, Gentlemen!"

I avoided reading here about the comic until after I'd had a chance to read it. I had low expectations for a pack-in bonus, and was very pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful story and excellent illos. It blew my expectations out of the water and was a very worthy item in itself. Well done!
