Has Versus REALLY been released yet? No shop has it in stock, I can't find a single review ... just like if the disc doesn't exist. 8)

I'm not totally sure. It was supposed to be out last week but I never actually checked. I just assumed that with Ichi finally out it would be too

Damn! I was determined to re-watch Zombie holocaust again before deciding whether to upgrade because it was far from a favourite. Then I was trawling through my old sale threads at the old dvdforums and discovered I sold my dvd years ago! Now I'm going to have to buy the Blu-ray! I hope I like it more this time around.

Seems like someone's been charged for Versus at blu-ray.com by Amazon so it must be shipping finally. That's another one I have to re-watch. Probably sold that one as well!

I'm amazed Shriek Show forked out for a Blu-ray makeover for Zombie Holocaust. Then again I suppose the film gained some notoriety in the States under the title Doctor Butcher M.D., so it will probably sell reasonably well.I'm wondering how Zombie Holocaust is going to look on Blu, will there be that much of a significant difference over the DVD to make it worth double dipping. For me, personally, there won't be, I'm happy enough with the DVD.Ditto for Return of the Living Dead.

Well the rumour that now seems to be floating around is that Media Blasters are on the verge of extinction.

I'm not usually one to believe this kind of stuff but they did lay off staff earlier this year and in the current climate it wouldn't surprise me.

If they can release flesh eater (aka zombie nosh) on blu-ray..... zombie holocaust must be the equivalent of releasing star wars compared to that one

It wouldn't surprise me. Niche labels have been struggling for a while now and I think Shriek Show may have overstretched themselves.

Oh well, if this is true, I hope a company like BU picks up the film rights. The upside to that is at least then they'll be region-free! Well...hopefully...

I thought with the advent of HD that region coding would be a thing of the past. Apparently not, as the BDA are intent on enforcing it as stringently as possible. I believe they're also now clamping down on companies selling players that are region-switchable, so we may never see widespread multi-region players like we have with DVD.

Just another reason for me to stick with good old DVD, except for region free US and UK Blu-ray titles.

All of this clamping down on switchable players is nonsense, what's to stop people importing a proper US player and also buying a UK player?

This region coding crap is outdated and irrelevant to the true collector who can bypass it with ease with little expense.

blu-ray players are now less than half the price that dvd players were first sold for so I don't see the reason not to go blu.

Especially as the cost of a new release title on dvd or blu-ray is almost the same.

John Sirabella is denying that MB/SS/etc. is shutting down. He says the blu-rays of ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST and BEYOND THE DARKNESS are still coming, just late due to waiting on the transfers to come from Italy. There's a bit of an uncomfortable discussion at AV Maniacs this evening.
