if that happens then I will have to cut down buying movies.
Plus that will add more reason for people to go the illegal route.
its not good for the movie buisness at all!

We all knew that the Tories would hike up taxes but the trouble is a huge number of people did nothing about it in the last election (or worse, voted for them). It's a sad state of affairs but those apathetic souls who weren’t driven to the voting stations to keep these animals out of power have only themselves to blame…

The closing of the loophole doesn't necessarily mean an end to cheaper-priced entertainment products, it just means companies like Play and Amazon won’t be able to sell new releases at the prices they’ve been offering. You’ll still be able to buy new chart releases in the supermarkets at the same prices but that just means that these colossal, greedy beasts just wrestle more custom away from specialist retailers, and companies like HMV will end up going the way of Fopp, Zavvi and Tower Records.

The majority of the entertainment product-buying public won’t see a difference in the cost of what they buy. Us more discerning collectors will see a distinct lack of variety or, if we do manage to find the stuff we’re looking for, will end up paying through the nose for it.

thats not entirely true.
quote from that article "Tesco said: 'To date all the savings that are made on buying items, such as DVDs and CDs, from our Guernsey business have been passed on to consumers. Consumers have been the winner, we don't make any money from this arrangement."

So tesco buy cheaper stock and then sell at a lower price. After this Tesco will no longer be able to sell at a lower price as they are buying at a higher price.

Who mentioned the Tories?
I though it was Billy Smart's Flying ****ing circus that was running the country...notice how Cameron's right hand is never visible when that idiot Clegg is talking?

Another SUPERB idea......

But Tesco isn't the only supermarket selling entertainment products and, is by no means the cheapest.

true but they are much cheaper then likes of HMV.
All the cheaper shops import from Channel Islands so they can sell for cheaper is the main point. After this they wont gain anything by importing from their and so prices will go up according to the prices they pay. Dont forget apart from supermarkets and HMV and Head there aint any other retail shops that sell DVDs and Blu's. Im sure Asda and Sainsburys import too like it says in the article.

Just as prices on BDs are going down and consumer's confidence is gaining in the format, they do this. If prices get hiked up again, it could noticeably slow down the uptake of Blu-ray.

I'm not going to get too political, but it's all very well for Osborne to say he's closing this loophole whilst at the time exploiting other tax avoidance loopholes for his own personal benefit. And maybe if he got compainies to actually cough up the billions they owe, like Vodafone, then the country would be in a better economic state. But no, Vodafone were let off their £6b tax bill, as well as certain other retailers. What really annoys me about this is that THEY have charged their customers VAT....and kept it!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

How typically predictible of the Conservatives to yet again punish the average everyday consumer whilst letting their billionaire non dom pals continue their tax avoidance scams. I am not a huge fan of Labour either, but at least from reading that Daily Mail article they seemed to possess a semblance of intelligence to realize that this would antagonize the electorate.
Whilst I did vote at the election, I am relieved that it was not for the Tories!
