| Looks like a new BD of The French Connection has been released in the US (through Best Buy for the time being) with a new transfer supervised by William Freidkin AND Owen Roizman (who famously voiced his disapproval of the last BD), restoring the film to the way it's supposed to look (no colour chages!). Unfortunately, the BBC documentary has been dropped ,and so has the featurette on the colour timing (understandable).

| Yeah Lucas and Friedkin......'Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed the ability to destroy a classic is insignificant next to the power of the purist!'

Yes, one of my favourite films may finally get a BD release worth buying( I posted before that my mate bought the first BD and I thought it was faulty ) just lets have it... grain, original palette and all in glorious HD.

I'll definitely pick up this edition. Friedkin proved what a good job he's capable of with The Exorcist. That looked marvellous on BD. Although at one point he had threatened to do a French Connection-style recolouring. Thankfully, it seemed that he didn't. The BD of The Exorcist looks terrific. Let's hope this new edition of French Connection achieves the same standard. I don't want a 70's (or 80's) movie to look like a new film. I want it to look like a 70's movie, but with all the attendant benefits that an HD restoration provides. Old films can look magnificent on BD, just look at the stunning transfer for How the West Was Won.
