What's the opinion on Hammer's Quatermass films? The Quatermass Xperiment is a great kick-start to Hammer's rise to fame ( with a terrific performance from Richard Wordsworth ). Quatermass II is ( I think ) quite an underrated movie , which gets better with repeated viewings. But for me Quatermass And The Pit is the best of the three. This cross between science fiction and supernatural horror has rarely been bettered imo. In fact I'd say it's one of Hammer's best ever films. Any thoughts? |

I've only seen Quatermass and the Pitt, but I agree it's a fantastic film.

| Quatermass and the Pit is brilliant, but The experiment is very good. Did anyone catch the Live BBC remake with Jason Flemming a few years back, it was part of BBC4's Sci-fi season.

Quatermass and the Pitt IMO is the best Hammer studio movie ever and I LOVE myself some Hammer films. I have the OOP Anchor Bay DVD. I'd love to see it get a re-release with in HD.

I like them all but Pit is the best with Xperiment second. I used to have the AB US Pit too but, as much as I liked the commentary, I couldn't resist the $70 going rate when there's a nice anamorphic print for less than £5. |

I didn't catch the remake either. However, the original b&w BBC tv series of QATP is well worth checking out.

The Quatermass Xperiment was remastered for a High Definition release in 2008. Unfortunately despite all the work put in to what is by all accounts an excellent Hi Def transfer, this has yet to see the light of day anywhere...

I love all the Hammer Quatermass films, I also have fond memories of the Quatermass TV mini-series with John Mills in the title role.

I wasn't keen on BBC4's Quatermass remake as they didn't even show the monster at the end! I know it was trying to be all cerebral and clever but I was still disappointed... |
