Default The godfather

Over the last few nights I've rewatched THE GODFATHER trilogy. Many polls critics reckon the sequel surpasses the original. Not in my book-original is tops....
What's all your opinions on the movies?
Full of memorable scenes, what is your favourite?
Mine have got to be the horse's head,Sonny being annihalated and the christening crossed with the massacre of the heads of the five families....

I like the tense resaurant scene where Pacino is building up the courage to kill the corrupt copper & pal.Very tense, though I would agree the massacre during the christening & James Caan's death scene are other stand outs. It's a shame the third film was so dull in comparison.

I quite liked the 3rd one though I agree it wasn't a patch on the previous two. Sofia Coppola was a dreadful replacement for Winona Ryder. The final shot (Pacino's primal scream on the opera steps) was bone-chilling.

I preferred the first to the 2nd, though only just. The tribunal scenes tended to wear the sequel down.

Yeah, the first Godfather is definatley the best of the three IMO. The massacre of the five heads of the rival families is incredible, couldn't have ended it more perfectly. I know it's kind of cliche'd saying it now but the original really is one of the greatest films ever made, an absolute masterpiece. It's probably the only film with an (almost) 3 hour running time I can watch over and over again without getting bored.
