Ah yes. The first AB dvd is very good - the image is a touch brighter than the Elite, but it's very similar.

The Book Of The Dead version (including the R2) is sourced from a different master, and is imo over matted at 1.85:1. The colours are also a bit funky and have a highly manipulated look. The US Ultimate Edition features both the cropped and full frame versions of the film, but again, the transfer isn't the best (both deriving from the newer master). However, this release is fully uncut, whereas the first AB and Elite discs omit a lightning strike and add a crude zoom during Cheryl's first possessed outburst.

So I'm hoping a blu ray edition addresses the problems of all dvd versions.

Blade was never cut by the BBFC, and there's no mention of it on Movie Censorship either. If the first one is cut then the US print would be the same. First I've heard of it though.

The full screen version is also available on the 4th disc of ABUK's Evil Dead trilogy and The first Box of the Banned.

One of my favourite 80's films that deserves a far better treatment than it has. The Prism (Arrow) print is a shoddy fullscreen VHS transfer, and the Cinema Club release is widescreen but devoid of extras and pretty mediocre.

Icon have recently re-released it. I haven't seen this print but it appears to be identical to the Cinema Club one.

I'm not a fan of Evil Dead II. I'm happy with the Universal release of TCM though the UK 3-disc set (the Seriously Ultimate Edition) is easily the best in terms of extras.

Sometimes the internet can overwhelm you with facts and opinions. This is what has happened when trying to decide which version of 'Deep Red' to go for. I imagine this is a question that has been asked often. But here goes anyway.

Which is the best version of 'Deep Red/Profundo Ross' to buy? Anchor Bay, Blue Underground or Another World?

Or should I just wait for a Blu Ray release and is one planned?

Thanks

I'd say the best version of Profondo Rosso available is the AWE disc. There is a Japanese boxset featuring Suspiria and Profondo Rosso which reportedly has better visual quality than the AWE disc but it's s bit pricey (if it's still available).
