Default Straight To DVD Rant

What is it with horror and other genres - a popular film goes to the cinema and makes millions, then all of a sudden we get a slew of straight to dvd low budget knock offs (Italy also did this),

Sometimes it's good to have straight to dvd films as they can be original and the majority of action films are straight to dvd - Van Damme, Steve Seagal, Steve Austin etc but it would be nice not to have a slew of straight to dvd knock off crap as soon as the main film hits the cinema.

I know this has turned into a rant but it has been bugging me

That's exploitation in it's purest form, and I'm all for it.

Alot of straight to DVD horror is stuff that got played at festivals that didn't make it to the screens in the U.S so we get alot of them straight to dvd over here. As for action, JCVD has made some surprisingly good DTV movies like Shepherd: Border Patrol, Wake Of Death and until death, the major problem with the action genre at the moment is the popularity of MMA and it's stars, there are alot of these films around and while most are utter trash now and then you'll get a good film, some that come to mind are Never Back Down 2, Blood And Bone and Beatdown, but there are some trash movies like Game Of Death, 7 Seconds and the 14 films Seagal has made since 2003.

I've discovered some pretty good DTV horrors in the past so it's not all bad.

How dare you say stuff like that about Steven Seagal! You should be ashamed of yourself!

That's marketing for you, how many dvds have you bought due to the awesomeness of the cover art only to be shocked at the low quality of the film, i know it's happened to me a few times, that Steve Austin film The Stranger was utter arse but the cover looked pretty cool. It's all about Marketing.

I beg to differ, I much preferred Belly Of The Beast, Into The Sun and Urban Justice (Renegade Justice).
