Default Have you ever felt embarrassed by a films artwork?

I have just bought Flavia the Heretic and Night Train Murders from HMV. When I got to the counter, the salesgirl looked at me like I was buying porn. I was ready to point out I needed something to watch whilst sharping my chainsaw...obviously, but doubt it would have change the fact.

Has a dvd artwork ever made you think twice? Jess Franco dvds can have that effect and don't get started on Mr Brass.

I wouldn't be too sure about that!

As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't have any problem buying Salò or I Spit On Your Grave in a store. If I received a strange view from the salesgirl, I'd put on my dirtiest grin ever!

Greetings!

My dirtiest grin probably comes across like the first on screen zombie in day of the dead. If I'd had a wonky haircut, those ninja style sandshoes or jeans that have baggy asses in them I might have passed for cool. Instead I get the 'oh here comes that dude who look like Woody Harelson...what s~** he buying this week.

Well, not in the same situation, as I rarely buy discs in physical stores, but when some of my wife's friends came here some weeks ago and were looking at my shelves I was hoping they didn't look at some Jess Franco DVDs...

I'm just waiting for the day my girlfriend has a closer look at my shelves. "'Strip Nude for Your Killer'? Oh, come on Paul!"

I don't get it. What's the deal? Are most people really still so coy and hung up on nudity, sex and violence in films?

Unless you are buying an instructional DVD entitled "Kidnapping and Raping the Pets of Shop Assistants" I don't see why one would even consider that the person behind the counter might react in any way other than the classic "bored but helpful".

If they thought twice about the covers of DVDs why would they work in a DVD shop?

The cure for the "oh god, how can I buy it with a cover like this" is to buy a porno dvd, you will notice that sex shops won't give you a second glance, no different than buying your first condom or pack of ciggies, never let worry stop you watching a cracking good flick cause of a dodgy cover. Buy it and damn the torpedoes. Kinda like a right of passage.
