Default The Exorcist TV show

Today's WTF? is not a movie remake of a movie, it's a TV remake of a movie:

'The Exorcist' to be remade as TV series by Martha Marcy May director - US TV News - Digital Spy

"The Exorcist series will however stray slightly from previous versions of the story, focusing instead on the events leading up to a demonic possession and how it affects the victim's loved ones."

To be fair the movie itself was changed from the original novel. Even the characters sex was changed.

This could be very good or very bad.

Harpers Island is the prime example of very good. It took the base slasher story, deconstructed and re-assembled it in a longer format and it was brillant. It'll depend on the direction and the casting on this one.

Which character? It's still about Regan, a young girl isn't it?

Yeah its been a long time but I remember people gripeing about certain changes back then.

Honestly I haven't read it. Good movie but I'm not exactly scared by that style of film. I found Race With The Devil more engaging because that could actually happen.

I think i'll stick with Friedkin's overrated but still essential original.

Apologies, but you are (slightly) wrong, Mr Fan

Although both William Peter Blatty's book, and the subsequent film, used Regan MacNeil as the possessed character, the original source material (i.e the case of demonic possession that was the basis for the book) featured a young American boy, who was possessed in 1949

However, there seems to be some confusion as to what his name was - presumably to give him some kind of privacy after the case.

Apparently Roland Doe (born circa 1936) is the pseudonym assigned to the exorcized boy by the Catholic Church. Later the pseudonym was changed by author Thomas B. Allen (who wrote an account of the possession, entitled 'Possessed'} to "Robbie Mannheim"

And so the awful trend to turn horror into soap opera on TV continues...the huge success of The Walking Dead means we will get loads more lame-ass horror soaps like this for a few years.
