Default Exterminators of The Year 3000 (Guiliano Carnimeo, 1983)

Yay, Guliano Carnimeo's post apocalypse cash in is finally getting released on dvd by Code Red in September.

Unfortunately it will be pan & scan!

Quote from AV Maniacs:

EXTERMINATORS OF THE YEAR 3000 came in a package with some of the other Italian-based productions Code Red acquired just recently. Unfortunately, this particular title will be pan-scanned. The Italian licensors do not have a widescreen master of the film available, it would cost $10,000 to make one, and neither party can afford that cost. It's another no-win situation because there's no way this title will sell $10,000 worth of copies anyway regardless of whether it's widescreen or pan-scanned, so the less-costly option is being taken. You can armchair-quarterback this decision as much as you like, and I'm sure the same parade of pizza trolls will do just that, but the contract dictates that this has to be released, so it's going out as is

The film is very similar to "New Barbarians" and almost as good and entertaining - it's just strange there are several DVD releases of one, but not any good release of the other.

Code Red have totally messed up the chance for the first proper DVD. Putting a 2nd generation VHS-copy "half-of-the-picture-missing"-Fullscreen version on DVD sure is less expensive, but not very professional.

Also by doing it the way they did, Code Red put the film in a bad light once again and ruined chances for a proper DVD of the film on the US-market for the next future.

No true fan of the genre or of "Exterminators of the Year 3000" wants to have a cropped Fullscreen version in sub-VHS quality and with ear-hurting sound.

I actually didn't know the specs and reviews back then, and like most people expected a remastered Widescreen version (of course - what else?!), so watching the not-really-cheap US-DVD was quite a shock.

There is some older German (or Austrian/Swiss?) DVD release, that had a greenish picture in 1.85:1 ratio, but it's still much better than the US-DVD.

So, worldwide there still is a need for a proper DVD release of "Exterminators of the Year 3000", in original uncropped 2.35:1 ratio. Would be a Shame if companies continue to only stick on "New Barbarians".

One clever company should be willing to invest the $10.000 (if that's true, maybe it would be cheaper today) and produce a good master, then release a proper DVD and sell the master to studios in other countries.

I can't imagine this film would do so much worse than "New Barbarians"...

It would be good for the extras, but I can't part with my money for a 4:3 version.

According to the second to last post in this thread the extras are disappointing:
