I just got this release of The Beyond today: THE BEYOND--LUCIO FULCI--UNCUT--: Amazon.co.uk: DVD However, I have a problem.. the sound on it sounds like it's been filtered through a phase filter or something? Anyone else own this release and notice this? |

I used to have that release, and from what I recall,no,the sound wasn't too clever.

Ah, that's a shame. For a second when I watched it I thought it was just my DVD had the problem. I thought it was a good release, oh well.Seems like I'll just have to get another release sometime. |

Nice cover though! EC was the dogs bollocks in their day. I still have quite a few of their releases. ![]() Not to worry mate-the Arrow disc will blow everything else out of the water. And if it's still on for January, then it'll be something nice to look forward to,when we're back to full blown reccession!

I'd say the Grindhouse DVD of The Beyond is probably the best of the current releases.I'm not a massive fan of The Beyond, I've always found it overrated.I'm still not sure whether I'll be picking up Arrow's release as I already have the Grindhouse disc, which does me just fine.

Anyone else find The Beyond slightly overrated? It's aways referred to as 'Fulci's masterpiece' but I, personally, much prefer City of the Living Dead and Zombie Flesh Eaters.I find David Warbeck and Catriona MacColl's acting atrocious in parts too, they are highly likeable personalities though.

I for one are waiting patiently for this release by Arrow, i know that this is going to blow all previous releases into the beyond itself, i currently own the A.W.E release and am really happy with that for now as i've already pre-ordered the Arrow blu-ray, i don't think THE BEYOND is overrated at all, in it's own way it has it's own haunting quality that drew me to it, a gothic haunted house / zombie film with the expected lashing of Fulci gore for good measure, if i had to list the four fulci zombie films into a fave list it'd have to be... 1, THE BEYOND 2, ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS 3, CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD 4, HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY |

As for it being "overrated"? I'm not sure how to answer that. It is what it is; spaghetti horror. Fulci managed to film his zombie movies a little like Leone, giving them a dreamlike quality. The Beyond is a series of violent set pieces set within a dream-like story that, whilst isn't complex, interests the viewer to it's avant-garde conclusion. The final scene is unsettling and bleak. I like Warbeck in this movie and I look upon his joke scene in the hospital lift as just another part of the "dream". Ever tried to fire a gun in a dream? I tend to have all sorts of problems ![]() What didn't help was German financiers insisting that zombies were part of the movie. I see them as physical ghosts and/or a manifestation of the hell dimension ripping apart the world. |
