Default Overrated Exploitation!

Recently i watched The Sinful Dwarf a film many people say is unbelivably depraved, sick and you will need a shower after watching. And suprise, suprise it was not shocking at all.

Are there any other films that have got a dubious reputation that when you watched you found was rather mild?

Thriller - A Cruel Picture(aka They Call Her One Eye).I still have the XXX version, but I found it very mild & rather dull on the whole. Not enough cruelty for my liking !

I was right pissed off with Sinful Dwarf. For months i heard people going on about how shocking it was, Severin in particular were guilty of this ( althought to be fair it is a good way of seeling your product ) but it led me to think the people who said all of this must not have seen many explotation films before.

I didn't find "The Sinful Dwarf" shocking but did enjoy the over all level of seediness that runs through it.For some reason,it reminded of "Rising Damp" with added scuzz!

I found "August Underground" a huge let down, and rather dull in places.

anything by tinto brass? (unless his earliest films are really different.)

just toe-curling... no idea how he can be compared to russ meyer (aside from marketing reasons) - michael winner would be far more apt.

I've not seen it yet but Brass' "Deadly Sweet" is meant to be excellent,I've got it on order at the moment.

I've found that most modern day exploitation has been really disappointing!

The whole August Underground franchise has bored me, as have Lucifer Valentines assaults on HD. Murder Set-Pieces was utter trash, the only real exploitation flick of recent that held my interest was Gutterballs, but even that has outstayed it's welcome after 2 viewings.

Now, Pathology on the other hand is possibly the finest slice of modern day exploitation in some time... and it's a mainstream movie! ha.

As for the classic exploitation I was let down by titles like:

All Night Long 1 - 3
Nude For Satan
Cat in the Brain
Most of Jean Rollin's input
Virgin Amongst the Living Dead
Zombie Lake

Ugh... felt myself falling asleep just thinking about those films.

I totally agree.
I found Snuff 102 to be interesting, and very good up to 2 viewings, but like August, SVD etc, it dose'nt stand up to repeat viewings.
The story is pretty interesting and easy to pick up , even with my Spanish being limited to 'Hola'. as its pretty basic, and speach is minimal, ( for some reason I got Spanish / no sub's) though the use of B/W & Color mixed with an 'industrial style sound work well, as does the genuine intercut web footage, but the 'twist' is seen long before its revealed, ,
Llke I said, very good up till 2nd viewing, then it loses anything it had, and this is a film you need to see more than once .

Ok, its an underground film, but if this is the future then i'll stick with the past.

Am with you on Rollin, but Zombie Lake is a favourite , as is Fulci's Cat in the Brain.
