Default Help Make the First Horror Movie Facebook Game!

Hey guys, Brad Mills here - I have a thread going on cult labs regarding a horror comedy film I have coming out:

The Legend of the Psychotic Forest Ranger (2011)

To help promote the film, we're making a horror movie themed Facebook game! It's like Farmville, but with more murder =)

Here's the premise.

Each 'stage' is based on a classic horror film. You play the killer in that movie, who is travelling around from map to map offing teenagers and other characters from the movie, collecting items from the film.

In order to get to the next level, you need to get enough XP (kill enough people) and collect all the essential items by looting the people you kill.

At the end of the level you will fight a boss (another horror movie character) and then you an move to that character's level and play as that character.

Here's a screenshot of the internal beta:

We need your help to help shape the game.

This game has the classic elements of a facebook game, but we want to brainstorm with you - we want your input to help shape the game.

First thing we need to talk about is the essential game currencies. Please give us your thoughts on what you think the title should be and what the icon should be!

Experience - usually XP, this determines your level, and what stagest you can enter. You get XP for killing people and completing missions. Currently represented by the maple leaf.

Energy - Killing people requires energy. Level 1 teenagers only cost 1 energy, where as a level 5 teenager might cost 5 energy. Energy regenerates over time, or by eating food/taking a potion. Currently represented by the lightning bolt.

Coins - Currency used in the game to buy items from the store. Currently represented by the canadian loonie.

Premium Currency - Special currency that people get for very special rewards (leveling up, killing a main boss, big missions) or which they can buy with Facebook Credits if they want to rank up faster. Currency represented by the dollar bills.

Looking forward to hearing your input!

I'm going to send Garlic and Silver Bullets to all my friends!

I play a few Facebook games, and collections are the thing, so random collection items would be a bonus, maybe classic slasher murder weapons like Cropsy's shears and Freddy's glove.

We do have a gifting feature built into the game! What kind of stuff do you think we should let users send? The obvious is energy and currency packs, but do you think we shoudl also allow to send items just or collecting, that are only available by gifting?

Yeah we have 2 types of ITEMS you can collect so far, this is the plan, give your thoughts:

Quest Items
  • Each level will have a set of say 6 quest items that you need to collect.
  • These are items you have to find in the game in order to move to the next map.
  • Quest items will be related to the character from the movie. IE cropsey's shears, the flaming skull, etc...items related to the killer that the level is based on

Collection Items
These are random sets of items available in the level, which will mainly be made up of random things seen in the movies.
  • Some of these collections will be just be to collect for fun.
  • Some of these collection items will be available for purchase in the store for that level.
  • Some of these collections items will give your character special abilities. IE faster energy reload, faster movement, etc.

Thoughts?

bonuses for all collections or no one will collect them, at least, not until the game is big enough to attract lunatic obsessives.

Dawn of the Dead Bub collection

Stephen King novel, razor, headphones, bucket of brains, handgun

Texas Chainsaw collection

Chainsaw, chicken in a birdcage, meat hook, deep freeze

Creature Feature rubber masks

wolfman, dracula, frankenstien, creature from the black lagoon, the mummy

Silver screen fan club badge collection

Bela, Boris, claude raines, basil rathbone, peter lorre

Also, the Video nasty collection. Player can eventually collect the entire banned list on VHS. You'll have to decide whether to go for the 40 odd titles where the convictions held or the longer list of potential prosecutions that failed.

The list could be divided into sets like the rarest, based on their current eBay prices for pre-certs.

Another set could be the ones that are still cut, a cannibals and zombies collection, slasher collection, naziploitation collection, etc.

Each collectable VHS could be linked to the appropriate youtube clip (I've seen youtube clips embedded in the game I Like Stuff)

A complete collection could earn you a Achievement or maybe a real world prize. Some of the banned titles could be rarer than others and of course, each account could be weighted to receive more of some items than others, to encourage gifting to complete collections. This is a standard Zynga trick I think. I'm a bit of a Zynga fan, I am fascinated by their myriad plans to drain time itself.

Of course, down the line, what you want to happen is for upcoming movies to give you advance viewings so you promote them with bonus levels based on their content. Mafia Wars has helped promote Captain America with exclusive attack items and it's done tie-ins with the recent X-men flick as well. So maybe you could emulate this.

Do I get a consultancy fee?
