Cool Rumours that Ps4/Xbox720 will not accept pre-owned games.

Looks like more bad news for cash strapped gamers, rumours starting to leak that both next gen consoles will only work with new store bought content, 2nd hand games will be hardware blocked from loading, nice, and watch the price of download/disc games jump in price accordingly in a captive market. Only a rumour so far tho. Imagine if they make BluRay/dvd players like that as well.

Yeah, I remember reading that a few days ago. Pretty awful idea, will really screw over the 2nd hand games retailers. Not sure how this would work for rentals either.

It is just a rumour but I'd be very surprised if they went through with this to be honest. I could see a lot of people not buying a next-gen console as a result.

Im sure this will happen im sure the games industry is loosing out big money with second hand sales on the increase. To be honest most games are not worth even close to the 60 bucks asking price. Games like GTA Red Dead Redemption Elder Scrolls Fallout are because they are full of content and take a long time to complete. Games like Homefront and Kane and Lynch 2 tho i really enjoyed Kane and Lynch 2 only took 4 or 5 hours to complete now thats not 60 bucks worth. If people cant try these games cheap then little known titles will suffer because people will not be willing to take a chance and only stick with already established franchises.

Yep, no more rentals, you would 'rent' online a logic bombed title that would go phffft... after 24hrs or so, from the consoles makers own website of course. Only 50/50 chance I'd say that it would happen, but remember all the Ps2 customers running home to play their dvds only to find a green screen waiting for em, 'How dare you try and watch a dvd in RGB, go out and buy a component lead from us instead, if your telly supports it, scum' How great that most customers only ever saw a dvd in composite quality, oh and while I'm at it, 'even if our console can support up to 1080i, and games in progressive output, we won't even bother for the likes of you, just be thankful you get 576i and the odd game at 480p' A little unfair, but true.

This sounds really shite.

I am yet to make the step up to PS3 though.

Plato - you keep mentioning sixty bucks for a game, thats now, the new games for the new formats will be nearer £100 guaranteed.

I've got a PS3 and mainly got as a cheap (at the time!) blu-ray player.

Although, it was about 3 years after buying it that I decided to start buying blu-rays.

I don't think I'll upgrade to another console - I don't play enough games to warrant it.

I think it would screw the games market in general, including new games. I don't know many games 'collectors'. Unless it's a real classic most people I know buy with the intent to sell on once they've finished it. Games have been a revolving door for years.
