Poll: Greatest Country For Cult Films?
Hi everyone, Here on Cult Labs, we love films from all countries! Whether it's British horror from the world of Hammer in the UK, Grindhouse US slashers, Italian Spaghetti Westerns and zombie flicks, Asian samurai movies, German splatter, french gorno.... the list just goes on and on! But, in your opinion, if you had to pick just ONE country, which would you say is the greatest when it comes to cult movies? It's an impossible question to answer - especially since it's often hard to claim a film as belonging to a certain country - but generally speaking, which country's cult movies do you love most? What about the country's films that you just don't like? Which are the worst?

Having to choose one, I'd certainly go with Italy. There are many more that are close (Spain, Japan, Mexico, US & UK), but none of these can touch the class of their gialli, spaghetti westerns, pepla, cannibals, zombies & nunsploitation. |

Its got to be Italy. No other country come close to matching their output or variation of genre.

The Wicker Man, The Blood on Satan's Claw, The Devil Rides Out, Night of the Demon, Dead of Night, The Shout, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Withnail and I, A Clockwork Orange, The Devils, Witchfinder General, Quadrophenia, Get Carter, Shaun of the Dead, Trainspotting. To name but a few. Discussion over. |

Italy I would of said Britain before people on here introduced me to the fantastic world of Italian cinema.

Whilst I agree the UK is generally better for cult films in terms of overall quality (the majority of the ones Dem listed are excellent films - however there are also a few there he's listed that I'm not particularly keen on), I too would probably lean more towards Italy. Not only due to sheer volume and variety, but I'm also a massive giallo and gothic horror nut and have a certain fondness for a lot of the shlocky Italian exploitation and rip-off cinema - much more so than other similar Euro fare. It's hard to vote against The Wicker Man, Hammer, Amicus, Tigon, Ealing, Ken Russell, Pete Walker, Norman J. Warren, Peter Greenaway etc. though... It's definitely a difficult question to answer (damn you Kyle! ) and one which I haven't really given it a massive amount of thought to. If I went through listing loads of 'cult' films I enjoyed from lots of different countries I may be in a different position regarding my answer; who knows... |

The Italians have far more output, yes, but the quality of the films vary wildly from some unique masterpieces to some of the worst films ever made;but when it comes to quality?
