Default How much of a DVD do you actually watch?

With Christmas just around the corner, it stands to reason that more than a few of my fellow horror buffs will receive DVD's in their stockings.

But, assuming that you get a DVD loaded with features, how much of it do you actually watch?

I tend to go with the film (which is the main reason for getting the DVD in the first place). Because I studied film and television at college and university, I also do all the commentaries. With regards to the other extras, I only do selected features. I normally avoid the picture galleries (because, apart from the various poster designs, they tend to be quite boring) and any extras which are wholly text-based, and I never do the CDROM computer access features

I almost always watch everything on a dvd or blu-ray. I always used to watch every film a 2nd time with the commentary if it had one. But in the last couple of years, I've found myself only listening to certain ones.

Depends on the film.

If I really like it,I watch/listen to everything.

If it's ok,I'll watch the extras but no text based/dvd-rom ones.
Sometimes I'll give the commentary a go.

If I don't like,I won't bother with the extras.

Yep, pretty much ditto to that, sometimes if I know the film well I'll just run the commentary thru the amp and just listen without the tv being on.

Depends on the film and who is doing the commentary. I like commentaries from exploitation film makers from the 60s and 70s as they tend to discuss so much more than the actual film on which they are commentating on. As for extras, very rarely outside of Something Weird Video releases.

And any commentary with John Carpenter, Kurt Russell, Bruce Campbell, and, although he doesn't know why anyone would want to listen to him, our very own family member, Calum Waddell.

I usually don't listen to a commentary unless I really like the film.

I give commentary tracks 10 minutes, if their interesting I continue, if not I dont bother.

The worst commentary tracks are the dry academic ones like on the BFI akira kurosawa discs, perfect for anyone with insomnia.

The best...

John carpenter paired with kurt russell (or another cast member) his solo ones are awful.

George romero.

Sam raimi, bruce campbell et al..

The fan commentary on the region 1 unhinged dvd (better than the movie.)

Frank Henenlotters commentary on the something weird basket case dvd. Probably the best reflections on the craziness that was the 42nd street grindhouse scene ever done. Plus some genuinely hilarious reflections on the movie itself.

Ian mculloch on Zombie flesh eaters/zombie 2.

Most David fincher commentaries.

since im one of those whose buying trends are governed by my natural scottish "grippedness". i will gravitate towards editions that have a decent amount of extras....though this is not always the case, and as always the FILM is the thing, and a decent print is paramount above all.

I tend to only watch the film, then I'll go back at a later date to watch some of the extras.

It's very rare for me to watch every extra on a DVD.
