Default Cosmopolis (2012) - David Cronenberg

Could the old Cronenberg be back?

Cosmopolis is based on a novel by Don DeLillo:

"Eric Packer, a 28 year old multi-billionaire asset manager makes an odyssey across midtown Manhattan in order to get a haircut. Covering roughly one day of time and includes highly sexed women and the theme of father-son separation. Packer’s voyage is obstructed by various traffic jams caused by a presidential visit to the city, a funeral procession for a Sufi rap star and a full-fledged riot. Along the way, the hero has several chance meetings with his wife, seeing her in a taxi, a bookstore, and lying naked in the street, taking part in a movie as an extra. Meanwhile, Packer is stalked by two men, a comical “pastry assassin” and an unstable “credible threat”. Over the course of the day, Eric loses vast amounts of money for his clients by betting against the rise of the yen. Packer seems to relish being unburdened by the loss of so much money, even stopping to make sure he loses his wife’s fortune as well, to ensure his ruin is inevitable."

Trailer:

Not being a fan of his most recent output, this could be 'a back to his roots' Cronenberg film that looks pretty promising.

'Nooo! Why Pattinson?!' was actually one of the first things that entered my mind when I first read about this.

I'm prepared to give it a chance, though as 1) It's Cronenberg, and 2) It sounds rather good. There's no official release date for the UK as yet, but apparently it will premiere in France on May 23rd.

1. From the clips i've seen, he's a crap actor.
2. I don't see the appeal of him. If he wasn't in films, no-one would take a second look at him. Looks like he's been 10 rounds with Muhammad Ali.

I really don't understand his appeal, but maybe Cronenberg saw something in him...?

At least we have Paul Giamatti and Juliette Binoche, though.

Screw all the Pattinson snobbery, watching that trailer was genuinely quite jaw-dropping. I am really looking forward to this.

Remember how crap Di Caprio was before he worked with decent directors?

I say give Cronenberg the benefit of the doubt. Maybe Pattinson is right for the role. Kevin Costner was an awful actor, but when a blank vacant everyman type was needed for Eastwood's A Perfect World Costner was ideal. I can't imagine anyone else playing that part.

Cronenberg is one of the two or three greatest living film-makers. I am quite willing to take his word for it, even if he cast Anthony Bloody Hopkins or Hugh Jackman!

I also hate him but this looks interesting and its Cronenberg so we wont get some teen love story at least! :lol

The neon style writing is copying Noe from Enter The Void however, the trailer reminds me of it.
