Default Wannabe Actors

Why do rappers and WWE wrestlers take acting jobs - they already have a job rapping or wrestling - they should leave the acting job to actors. Say DR DRE he was in Training Day, that could have been taken by Wesley Snipes, so these wannabe actors are putting proper actors out of their jobs

I don't think Snipes would have given that tint role a second look, mate.

Hollywood studio execs are always trying to "package" films to create bigger audiences and it's easy to see why casting agents would opt to sign a rapper for a supporting role in an urban thriller like Training Day. Especially given the fact that many of the films in which rappers appear will also have soundtrack albums featuring the same artists. It's a business decision, pure and simple.

Still, there are many rappers who have proven themselves more than capable of holding their own onscreen, so I don't really see a problem with it, but then I absolutely love (old school) hip hop.

Early 90's Death Row and Bad Boy stuff, I know im going to get hated for this but early to mid 90's I always preferred Snoop Dogg to 2pac, Snoop's voice was more easy going.

I agree, I like Tupac but always thought he was overrated as a rapper. In fact I'd go as far as to say that I think he was a better actor than rapper!

I like Snoop and a lot of the West Coast stuff but I've always preferred the East.

Yeah, I don't see the problem with it really. It seems a bit much to complain on the basis that they're keeping people out of work to be honest. I don't see why one person should be defined by one job - if wrestlers or rappers want to act and think they can do a good job then let them. Just in the same way a screen-writer or editor might want to direct or a director might want to act or an actor might want to direct a film or...etc etc. You get the point.

Personally, i'm not into Rap but generally don't mind Ice T as an actor and he's pretty good in Surviving The Game and Ricochet imo. Former WWE legends Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin aren't bad either in my book and it would be nice to see Johnson squaring off against the Predator sooner or later. John Cena was quite watchable too in the totally OTT but enjoyable The Marine and i'm looking forward to going 12 Rounds with him sooner or later. However, not having seen The Marine II yours truly can't comment on Ted De Biase's performance in it but the film looks entertaining enough, though.
