Default Welcome To The Grindhouse Project

Welcome one and all to the newest section of Cult-Labs: The Grindhouse Project, but what is TGHP? Read on and you will find out.

After talking to Almar about the Cult Film Society I set up at university he suggested that I might like to run a section here on Cult-Labs helping promote screenings of cult film. I of course jumped at the chance to be more involved with Cult-Labs, and after doing a web search and fining out this information is not readily available (at least in one place) I though it would be an excellent project to work on.

So here’s the pitch:

In an age where B-Movies are being slowly confined to home entertainment the Cult Film fan should take every opportunity to see new and classic Cult Films, with an appreciative audience, on the big screen. The aim of The Grindhouse Project is to promote Cult Film Screenings in the UK and Worldwide. Whether it is small fan run film societies or larger festivals The GHP hopes to raise awareness of these events, and even help people who would like to set up there own screenings, with advice on how this can be done.

Cult Films demand to be seen on the big screen, The GHP hopes to help them find their audience.

Default How can I be invloved in The Grindhouse Project?

The next question you are probably asking is how can I be involved in The Grindhouse Project?

Well, we need people to come here and talk about upcoming screenings, are you able to come? Have you seen the film on the big screen before? Do you know of any other screenings that TGHP can promote? Do you run a film society that you would like to promote? Would you like to put on screenings of your own, but don’t know where to start?

All of these questions are the sorts of things we would like people to discuss here, with me and with all of the other members of Cult-Labs.

Default Finding out more. . .

Hiya, I've recently become very interested in Shamless Entertainment and Releasing as I've recently started purchasing a number of your DVDs. I've been a lover of exploitation films since before I was allowed.

I'm a student film-maker living between Leeds, London and Bournemouth. Along with a few friends we wanted to begin regular Grindhouse screenings at our local independent: Cottage Road Cinema in Headingley, Leeds. I was intending to make initial contact with them over the summer regarding starting these screenings and stumbled across The Grindhouse Project.

Being that Cult Labs have access to such a reservoir of cult films I thought it might be a good idea to make contact also.

So basically yes, everything described at the top is what I want to know more about. I'm very serious about this and have some radical marketing ideas that could create a huge student audience for this in Leeds in the coming years.

Please get in contact through the forum or my email is on my profile page also.

Happy viewings anyway

Mikel

Hi Mike,

Its great to hear from someone who is interested in getting cult film shown in their local area. If there is any questions you have I'm sure someone here will be able to answer them.

I think the most important thing for you to do before contacting the cinema is to drum up support for your cult film screenings. If you have a list of people who say they're interested in coming I think the cinam owner will take you a lot more seriously, as it is not free to put on a screenings, and this money will probably have to come from ticket sales.

Anyway good luck with your endevour and hopefully you'll be putting up screening info here soon.

I am currently in the process of sending out a mass email to all the cinemas that have had films listed on the GHP. I am hoping I will get some of them to come over and post more screening, and you never know if they know about this place and the possible about of new customers it may inspire them to put on even more cult showings!

Hi guys,

Just though that I would put up a general post as things have been a little quite (OK almost comatose) here on the GHP as of late. I have been completely buried in uni work for a good few weeks, but things are about to change. I am now on xmas break and I will be back with full force to bring you the best screenings from around the country and beyond.

So keep an eye out for all of the stuff that will be post here in the immediate future!!!
