Default What has been Your Favourite Cult Cinema Screening?

I was thinking as I was posting about all of these fantastic film nights, festivals and screenings it would be good for everyone to share their memories on their favourite cult film cinema outing.

For me it has to be my day long visit to Frightfest where I saw Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead and the UK premiere of Land of the Dead. It was fantastic to watch these films with a audience who were really desperate to see them. There was loads of cheering and laughing and a general festival atmosphere during all of the screenings.

I also got to see a talk by Greg Nicatero, where he showed everyone how the special effects in Land were done, and also Simon Pegg turned up at one point, and George A. Romero himself was in attendance at the premiere and did a Q and A.

All in all it was a fantastic day, although the screening of Man From Hong Kong at the UCLan Cult Film Society, with Q and A by Director Brian Trenchard Smith comes a close second.

SUSPIRIA at the Pictureville cinema in Bradford. Even though the 35mm print was an old 'X' cert print from back in the 70s it was still a fabulous experience seeing it on the large screen with the sound turned up to 11.

When did you see Suspiria Johnny? I was lucky enough to see it on the bigscreen just the other month or so. The local picturehouse runs horror movie nights every now and then - see Carrie and The Exoricst. Still cant believe I missed out on seeing Evil Dead 2 there though.

As for Cult Cinema Screenings - obviously FF springs to mind - though those films aren't really cult yet - although seeing American Werewolf in London and TCM on the HUGE screen was amazing.

As for really really cult films, I went to see The Room and the audience knew - and were encoraged to do - all the things, like throw plastic spoons at the screen, shout stuff out. That was a bit weird. Not sure if I liked that

A couple of my favourites have been the Brunel Cult Film Society's annual screening of A Clockwork Orange. In 2010 we managed to get it introduced by someone who was working on set at the time We also do an annual screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and our members get dressed up and do all the participation bits.

I also saw The Strange Vice Of Mrs Wardh at the Roxy Bar And Screen, that was an awesome night

It was back in June 2007 at the Fantastic Films Weekend, held at the National Media Museum.

The museum seem to own possibly the last remaining vintage print on 35mm as it's the same copy that keeps getting loaned out to tour the US and UK at festivals etc.

Who would have thought it?

The last vintage print lives 40 minutes away.

It could have been anywhere in the world.

They have quite a few vintage prints, the last time I was there I saw SCARS OF DRACULA from an old print, still an awful film mind.

Time before that I saw both DR PHIBES films on a double bill. THAT was a good double bill!

When I first moved to Manchester, many a moon ago, there used to be lots of cult films/experimental films shown on screens in pubs and bars by Kino. I saw "Four Flies On Grey Velvet", "Evil Dead", "The Beast" and loads of underground/ cinema of transgressive type stuff. One title that springs to mind was "Mod F*ck Explosion!" though I can't remember much of the film other than people walking through a room made of meat.

When I lived down south, I'd regularly chuck a sickie from work and make a 120 mile round trip to The Scala Cinema. Not sure if it was my favourite cinema experience but during a double bill of "The House of Whipcord" and "Thundercrack! a gentleman behind me er, got in on the films action in a solo manner. I remember the projector kept breaking down leaving the audience howling at the screen during the infamous cucumber scene in "Thundercrack!"

I went to a fair few all nighters there too, but increasing age and being off my tits at the time has diluted the memories somewhat!

My worst experience was when a friend asked me to go and see the first 3 Star Trek films with him. I'm not a fan of sci-fi, was bored stiff and spent the whole time wondering why none of the crew had pockets in their uniforms!
