Which horror films do you reckon used the beach location to most chilling effect?

I love the numerous beach scenes in Night of Seagulls. The atmosphere that these chilling scenes create is one of the main reasons why it is my favourite of the Blind Dead films.

Oooh greeat thread idea Reaps! Messiah Of Evil is an incredible film (many thanks again mate )

What about the beach scene in Creepshow with the crazy Leslie Neilson! A great scene that - even if it's my least fav of the bunch.

Doomwatch was filmed completely in Polkerris, near Fowey. Mevagissey was used in Badham's Dracula, which was also filmed at Tintagel and the beaches of Carlyon Bay & St Just.

The Witches was filmed at the Headland Hotel here in Newquay. Fistral Beach can be seen in the background.

Not quite the seaside (though near to) but the genuinely creepy Roche Rock can be seen in The Final Conflict. I'm not 100% about the beach scene in the film (the 'Disciples of the Watch' sequence) but I think it's near St Agnes. The latter can also be seen in Crucible Of Terror (Ronald Lacey gets pummelled with stones there) and Clash Of The Titans.

Zennor and the immense Carn Galvor mine at St Just can be seen in Dr Blood's Coffin. Strangely, despite being set in Cornwall, neither Plague Of The Zombies or The Reptile were filmed here.

And of course the village of St Buryan (near Penzance) was used in Straw Dogs. I've been there many times but haven't found Susan George, dammit.

The scenes in The Orphanage are pretty memorable.

It seems like Cornwall has been used for numerous horror settings over the years. I know that the fishing village of Mousehole was used for some filming for Revenge Of Billy The Kid.

Sure was. I remember it being filmed there. Mousehole (which nearly everyone pronounces wrong) was also used in both Poldark and The Onedin Line.

Not horror films but Holywell Bay (I've just come back from there incidentally) was the North Korean beach 'surfed' onto by Pierce in Die Another Day, as well as the setting for the brilliant opening credits scene (Skeet Surfing) in Top Secret.
