It's actually the source for the first two films. The couple being speared together in Part 2 is lifted wholesale from Bay of Blood. Took Sean S. Cunningham a long time to admit it though.

A very convincing argument can be made, imo, that Bay of Blood/Twitch of the Death Nerve and Black Christmas were the two single biggest influences on the then nascent slasher genre.

Bava is an odd one with me. Each time i watch one i always think "That is certainly his best film", until i watch another. The only one i am not keen on is Hatchet for a Honeymoon. Although Shock isn't up to much either. Not seen Venus of Ille |

The one film of his that I always seem to like more with each new viewing is Baron Blood. This is the second time Bava used HPL's Charles Dexter Ward scenario, the first being Black Sunday. Speaking of Bava and HPL, I would certainly have to rank the proposed Bava helmed version of the Dunwich Horror as one of the greatest missed opportunities in the history of the genre. |

Venus of Ille is a classic gothic imho. Beware that little of the actual "horror" is shown and it's left mostly to the viewer's imagination. REVIEW -- The Venus Of Ille (spoilers!) |

I love HATCHET FOR THE HONEYMOON! It's possibly my favourite Bava film.

I don't think i'll ever get to see it though. A tv movie, and the stills look poor quality on the review. I suppose Mya may release it at some point, after all they released Door into Darkness which i am pleased to own. |
