I am trying to save £4000 for a garage conversion, so I am trying like crazy to stop buying things until I get there (taget date is the end of July, and I'm still around £1600 short). Hence why I've been offering up some stuff for sale lately which I'd rather not be doing.

So far this month I've bought a laserdisc box set for £7, a CED disc for £5, a DVD-R box set of the Japanese Spider-Man series for £10, a bundle of old Time Screen magazines for £10, a Dr Who prozine for £5 and that is about it... which for those who know me, know is an incredibly small amount.

And I guess I'm gonna be skint for a while now once the baby arrives... like the next 18 years or so

I've made a pledge to myself to stop buying until I've watched all the films in my "too watch pile". Though to be honest I'd already cut down on my buying of dvds as I'm going through one of those periods where other things in life are more interesting than shiny discs.

And I usually try not to spend more then $10.00 for a single dvd .

Right now I am at 712 horror dvds and I am blessed by the fact that my fiancee is also a major horror fan, So any movies I buy I see as something that my Lady and I can do together.
As an ex-smoker myself (and while not totally tee-total i've reduced my drinking immensly, about 2-3 pints a week at most) most of my cash goes on movies. That said I mostly avoid the euro-releases due to cost. Sure the awe release of ferox is better, but the grindhouse disc cost me a LOT less. Same for that german harbox of texas chainsw, it looks lovely but for the same price I paid for almost three redemption blu-rays. I can stick with the uk edition of texas chainsaw (which cost me 5.99 and looks amazing)

Me and my wife both work, and we're both teetotal non-smokers.We also have two children, so most of our money goes on stuff our kids need, as well as paying household bills, etc.But occasionally I can spend a little on DVDs/BDs, it's certainly not as often as I'd like but it does mean I can think carefully about what I want before I buy it.I am pretty selective nowadays.

I try not to buy anything at all actually -no more DVDs at least- but sometimes i get high or a little tipsy and i order a DVD that looks cool at that moment and has a good or very good price. Sometimes just a DVD I've been meaning to get for a long time but couldn't find, like "Death smiled at murder."

BDs I don't mind buying, but I am definitely not going to replace all the DVDs I have with BD versions of it once that's possible (if ever). So I just sometimes buy a movie that I really like once the BD comes out.

So all in all I spend like 250 euros per month on movies.

I have been buying movies for just over 20 years used to spend between £200-500 a month on movies especially when i was collecting Laserdiscs.
In the last 5 years i have started to budget more and only spend around £50 on Blu-rays and dvds a month.

At the peak of my addiction I was buying an average of 7 DVD's a fortnight, but since I moved house and slimmed down my collection by selling around 1800 DVD's I have reduced my purchases dramatically. I still have splurges from time to time, for example my visit to FOPP last week, but have been concentrating much more on going to film festivals around Europe and the world. Its probably costing the same but to my mind is a much more enjoyable way to see films and also see a bit of the world.
