Hi all. After watching the documentary about "the video nasties" on the 3 disc definitive guide,it got me thinking that banned, cut, and not u.k released horror films have been a good thing for me! If there wasnt so many banned films i probably wouldnt be interested in horror films like i am. If its been banned, cut or never released in the u.k then this makes it interesting for me and it will also make me research it and hopefully get hold of it.Uncut of course, although i have purchased a few films stateing its uncut, only to find out that it is actually cut! Also,i agree that if films like "i spit" and "last house",wernt band they would have never been remade. Not seen the remakes, yet! Banning films or cutting them to shreds just makes people want too see them more,so for me banning certain films has been kind of good as i wouldnt have these in my collection and would not be into the scene. Hope this makes sense and i aint on my own on this one? Basicly if its been banned or cut and its available online, uncut,i want it in my collection. I do have my limits though! Films like "snuff 102",may be a bit much for me. |

I totaly agree and at the same time if some films wernt or didnt have the notority then the chances of they just disappear into oblivion and become unheard of, With no interest.. Sometimes wether the film good or bad you want it or at least want to watch just the sole purpose of seing what all the fuss is about, |

| I have had many disappointments when finally watching some of the banned films. If it wasn't for the notoriory I really wouldn't have bothered. It's true to say that banning these films gave them a curiosity factor that I have found hard to ignore. Some simply deserve to sink into oblivion but there will always be that question of why I shouldn't be allowed to watch something.

my take on it is that they were merely used as a scapegoat to reelect MT (along with the jingoism of the falklands) under the "family values" banner...yes some of these works arent worth the celluloid they were printed on (which to my mind says far more about censor's mindsets than anything else)...but some were genuinely great films. but i also feel that in this day and age the "shocking" element has been pushed slightly too far, but i dont have to watch these do i?? here's a wee tale...as i had the reputation in my hometown as a "horror" fan...people would bring the strangest things to my door (german porn etc...sheeesh) BUT one day a mate turned up with the classic 4th gen copy of a certain Deodato film...he hadnt seen it, just knew its reputation...and boy it was all there...and just before the turtle sequence ANOTHER mate turned up...eating a hamburger!!...i had paused the film to answer the door, so when he sat down and innocently asked what was this on screen...i told him...he turned a nasty shade of green and left...to this day he refers to this incident (i also showed them TARGETS at a later date, to which he said "havent you got anything nice?" its fun to be me haha) |
