I don't believe all that incontext stuff with regards to the BBFC and hardcore.I think it's all down to just how horny the examiners are on the day that ceratin films come in.What we need to do is ask them to fill in a questionairre on the day Shameless takes SBD in and find out when the last time they had a little of the old in out as Alex DeLarge would say If it's been a while, get that film in there for a certificate.

This was the BBFC's reply to me regarding contextual hardcore footage.......

Quote:
The context in which an issue (such as sex or language) is presented is central to the question of its acceptability and classification.

As you will be aware, our definition of a 'sex work' is a work whose primary purpose is sexual arousal or stimulation. This definition is echoed by that provided by the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 for pornography. LES NUITS CHAUDES DE JUSTINE was judged, on balance, to fall short of this primary purpose test. It was felt that the film was more a dated 'erotic romp'-cum-satirical comedy. While there is a titillatory aspect to the film, the nudity and sex was mostly '18' level. The brief shots of unsimulated fellatio, within this 'erotic romp' context, were judged to be containable also at '18'. Our Guidelines at the time (LES NUITS CHAUDES DE JUSTINE was classified under our previous criteria) permitted "the more explicit images of sexual activity" at '18' provided the work is not a 'sex work' and there was contextual justification. Of course, such distinctions are often a matter of judgement but LES NUITS CHAUDES DE JUSTINE was judged, overall, to meet both these tests. This work would be oddly placed at 'R18'. It should also be borne in mind that 'sexploitation' works are not necessarily 'sex works', and images of real sex are not unprecedented at '18', eg. SHORTBUS, 9 SONGS, etc.

Ha... Looking forward to this now. The box set contains these films:

Exit Wounds
Executive Decision
Fire Down Below
Glimmer Man
Nico
Under Siege
Under Siege 2
Out For Justice

Since I have no idea about his output I haven't a clue whether these are "classic" Seagal or total baws From a brief look online I see that Under Siege 2, in particular, was heavily cut. Seems a shame that no-one has resubmitted these films - surely there would be very little chance of them being cut today (given that stuff like Cliffhanger has been re-released with all cuts waived).

Oh well, it'll be cut versions for me... boo.

They'd all pretty much pass intact today. It's just a pity that some distributors simply reissue the cut prints rather than submit the uncut ones.

Even the UK releases of films such as Pulp Fiction and Face/Off are still the cut prints.

The cuts to this are just over 2 mins and the list is enormous. The BBFC last saw it in 1998 (under Ferman) and it would fly through today.

The cinema version was uncut.

I'd completely forgotten that Pulp Fiction was cut (or reframed I think it was), Seems mad now. Hopefully as films are remastered for HD release we'll start to see things pass through the BBFC unscathed.

Funnily enough I was discussing Ferman in the pub last night - bad old days indeed...

Yes the shot of the needle puncturing Travolta's skin was cropped off the screen. Crazy really. The BBFC would have passed it years ago but Buena Vista keep releasing the same cut print.

The BBFC last saw it in 1995.

Wan't it still cut though as per the 'R' version? I'm sure even the R1 DVD is still the cut 'R' version.

"Under Siege" is still cut I presume.

"Executive Decision" has a small cut at the start and a few censored 'we can't annoy the Muslims' moments where they remove a few religious lines of dialogue and a praying scene.

"Nico" i presume is also still cut.

Don't think any others are...not sure.

But that's not a bad bunch of Stevie the Seagul flicks (though he only rerally has an - infamous- cameo in "E D").
