Default 'Corrie' causes storm over child slap scene

"A children’s charity has criticised scenes of a child being slapped in this week’s ‘Coronation Street’.

Hundreds of ‘Coronation Street’ fans have also taken to the web to complain over the scenes in Monday night’s episode of the ITV soap.

9.5 million viewers watched Owen Armstrong, played by Ian Puleston-Davies, slap his girlfriend Anna Windass's 10-year-old adopted daughter Faye, played by Ellie-Louise Leach, across the back of the legs after discovering she had killed his fish."

Full story

Mind you, if you know some of the 'little darlings' that I know, you would agree that a slap across the legs is the very least that they need!

I agree with you about a little slap acroos the legs and it does no harm
of course we are on about a little slap not a beating which stupid people, whoever they are, seem to think its cruelty when its not
I was given a slap or two when I was a kid and it did me no harm

unfortunately the powers that be don't see it that way and so we are dictated to by goody goodies, [politicians, social workers, etc
I saw that scene with my girlfriend and we were not by his actions but I said then that there is going to be contoversy......

everything causes sad people to ring up and compain about something
melon farmers is a great site for this to call them religious nutters, whingers etc

Nor me and I don't run the streets causing chaos.

Never did my kids any harm either and they won't turn out to be the scourge of society either.
Discipline in moderation never did anyone any harm.....

You cannot discipline kids at home or at school, the police cannot touch the little darlings either. No wonder today's youth has grown up full of respect and decency for people and property. Lets here it for the me, me generation , our future. Doesn't it make you feel safe to know the future is in their hands.

Agreed and some of the youngsters you come across these days make The Children Of The Corn look like the children of Sesame Street!
The malicious munchkins of Bloody Birthday wouldn't stand a chance either!

My brother and i were also clouted when we got outta line and such action put us in our place. Pure and simple.

That old sickening standbye excuse of "Well, they're only kids." doesn't wash with me anymore i'm afraid. True, there's still many a good seed amongst the younger generation but tbh the majority i see appear irresponsible, disrespectful, foul-mouthed, lazy and even seemingly downright evil imo.

Damien Thorn looks like Oliver in comparison!

Totally agree, what worries me about (some of) the youth of today is not just that they may be more mouthy, rude or selfish but you just generally don't know what some are capable of thinking and doing nowadays. It seems like all logic and knowledge of consequence for their actions doesn't even enter their minds, and that's what scares me the most.
