Default Long Term, Will VHS Always Be Collectable ?

I'm still obsessed with VHS, and after watching the excellent Marc Morris documentary last year, felt compelled to attempt to complete my collection of the infamous DPP 72, as well as picking up some horror rarities that have yet to grace a modern format.

Noticed a few weeks back a copy of Mardi Gras Massacre sold for £255.00 on eBay, and was wondering - where will the collectability of VHS be in the years to come ?

Will it gradually fade away like a forgotten format ? or will the pre-cert's, rarities, and titles never to be released on DVD, Blu-ray, streaming or download be forever considered collectable.

I regard my VHS much like my comic book collection, and think that in years to come there will always be a frenzied and competitive collectors market.

I'm sure some will still retain their cache, Beast In Heat, Gestapo's Last Orgy etc, but would you fork out say £200 for Devil Hunter

Ahem.

I still pull out my Cataclysm (one of the finest exploitation vhs covers ever imo) and smile crookedly.....i'm rambling....
as long as they are not left in a barrel of salt they should still give you many years of pleasure to come, unlike the copy of The Other Hell my mate gave me which promptly knackered my heads!! grrr etc.
though a chap did offer me £75 for my Bloody Kids once, wish i'd taken the offer now, it hasn't aged well imo.

I would guess if a film is only available on vhs and has not made the step to dvd, never mind Blu-Ray, then yes those titles will be collectible.

Devil Hunter for £200? I'm afraid you'll have to add a few hundred quid to that amount to purchase it and watch out for fakes!

If I'm not mistaken, there was a one-off uk pre-cert that sold for around £1600 a few months ago.

Cool

The tapes themselves will always hold appeal, I fear that the vhs machines to play them back on will be the real problem over the next couple of decades( in some 30 years I've seen at lest 10 of mine bite the dust) I wonder if specialist companies in the future may produce cheap playback only devices for old tapes. Last time I saw a working betamax was 2001 and as for v2000...

I still use a Panasonic vhs nv-hd90 that's about 20 years old, so maybe there's hope(it outlasted newer Pannys, Toshiba and Sony models)

I'm in full agreement with you and a few years back it was estimated there's potentially thousands of VHS rarities from yesteryear yet to grace the SD format nevermind showing up in HD.
