Nowt special with that announcement, you might think

However...it seems that they are going back to the original version, and NOT the 2002 version which digitally removed all scenes with guns, and replaced them with walkie-talkies!

I'm sick of this never-ending revisionism. If Spielberg decided in 2002 that he wanted the guns replaced by walkie talkies then he should leave it as it is. Generations of people grew up on the walkie-talkie version and Spielberg, as an artist, should respect this!


Seriously though - good news. I know he regrets doing it in the first place and is aware of the sanctity of keeping the films the way they initially were so it's good that this release reflects that

I have the old 3-disc dvd set which contained the original cut & the 2002 one so that will do me.

Spielberg had said that the reason for removing the guns was due to the school shootings that happened at the starts of the millennium and now he realises that it was wrong which is why he put them back in. I will be buying it not just because of the restored scenes but because of John Williams' incredible score, remastered in 5.1 HD and DTS. Plus it's going to look shiny and cooooool...
