There is a region-free English-friendly Australian blu-ray out there now. I just ordered mine yesterday.

I can't post links yet since I'm a newbie, but a review can be found at DVDActive and the BD can be ordered from CDWow for 14 pounds.

Amelie is a film that I love. I became aware of it when it was still quite new, and I knew that I wanted to see it because I'd enjoyed Jeunet and Caro's Delicatessen and City of Lost Children.

I think that on a visual level it is one of the most striking films that I've ever seen and I also think that it features a great script, a great soundtrack and a genuine emotional core.

And yes; Audrey Tautou is indeed a smashing looking lass!

It was OK. Fun, but cloyingly cute and mawkish eventually. I kind of wanted someone to strangle Amelie by the end. Over-rated.

Better than Delicatessen, not as good as City Of Lost Children.

Probably one of the first foreign films I ever saw, and I think it still holds up! Had a huge crush on Ms. Tatou when I first watched it.

If you have the two-disc special edition, there is an easter egg concerning this part of the movie

Insert disc 2 > select 'The Station' from the main menu and press ENTER > highlight 'main menu' and press the DOWN arrow to highlight the gnome. This takes you to a map where you can follow the gnomes progress, and see the pictures taken

excellent film from Jeunet, one of his best
with the usual yellows in scenes which he is fond of directing giving nice visuals
