Default Hardware (Richard Stanley, 1990)

Had my copy of Hardware: Special Edition arrive in the post earlier today. Haven't watched it yet but the presentation with regards to the DVD sleeve and the artcards (only looked at the ones on the outside at the moment) and booklet inside is well done.

I don't think I'd ever heard of Hardware until a few weeks ago when I bought Barquero on Region 2. Inside was an Optimum DVD releases booklet. Among the upcoming DVD releases was Hardware.

Yeah it's the first time it's been released uncut in the UK. I have an import copy of it, and it's a pretty good film. If you enjoy it Wave, try Dust Devil - another good film by Stanley.

The upcoming Severin release will trump the UK disc.

Cheers for the heads-up Marc... What goodies are Severin spoiling us with on this release?

Was this cut on its cinema release? That's the only time I've seen it.

Whatever happened to Richard Stanley,I seem to remember he was being touted as the savouir of the British genre film many a moon ago.

I think he got a bit pissed off after The Island of Dr Moreau saga. He'd been set to direct it after screen-writing the bulk of the movie but was fired by Val Kilmer and replaced by John Frankenheimer... The final work was apparently nothing like Stanley's original version. That's the last I'd heard of him. He's probably gone back to directing music videos.

Stanley has two projects in pre-production according to IMDb."The Bones of the Earth" based on a Donald Cammel script and "Vacation".

Do Severin have anything to do with Code Red? I checked their website earlier and couldn't see anything for Hardware. Is this film in the public domain, because how can it be released by two different distributors, unless it's because Code Red only release films on Region 1?

No, Severin are not related to Code Red. I haven't updated their website because they have been busy working on their Blu-ray of INGLORIOUS BASTARDS. As soon as they send me the info I'll update the site.

Severin licensed Hardware from Disney - it's not in the public domain.

Why did you think Code Red were issuing it?
