Need to be a bit more direct, I wasn't sure if you liked it or not ;-)

Obviously it was a different film to the one I watched where it was all relevant and it did all make sense...to me anyway. Unless you were listening to the German Dub (dubs=spit) which I hear is as iffy as most dubs are...

I think you're missing the point here as it's all about overkill violence not just a shot to the head. Its very much like Robocop where one shot would have done it in the warehouse but Verhoeven wanted it to be overkill, well same here...

Compared to the sad stuff Romero (and any other US zombie film from the last decade) is now churning out this is a work of genius

COULD be the dubbing's fault, yeah - but honestly, I don't think so.

You know, I'm not that good with names but at the end of THE HORDE, I still had no idea who was who, I couldn't remember a single person's name. I have never had that happen before. The main character traits were "cop" and "gangster", but both parties acted ridiculously. Then came the "logic issues" (I don't espect logic from a zombie movie als zombies are illogical to begin with) but when a character sais "shoot the heah" and then doesn't, that's not overkilling, that's being effin stupid.

But I don't want to be a buzzkill. If you liked the movie, I'm happy for you. I really wanted to like the film and it certainly has nice scenes. But paperthin characters and the overall stupidity of the non-existant story made that kinda impossible for me.

P.S.: For whoever wants to know that: In France and Austria you can get the film on Blu-ray. No English subtitles, though. Be aware, the German BD is censored and misses 6 minutes of gore!

Sorry are we talking about La Horde or Avatar here

Re Uncut and Theatrical German BD's - it's actually 9 minutes and no gore is cut
Thats why the Theatrical 93min version has big FSK 18 sticker on the front.

See post 12 in this thread for the differences.

We're talking about LA HORDE
Avatar might also have some character issues but in general, that movie worked really well.

Speaking of the two versions, here's a comparison I've made
Schnittbericht: Die Horde | DVD-Forum.at
I don't know which "93 minutes" version you've seen but the German release (FSK ab 18) is cut only for violence. The Austrian one (Uncut) is ... uncut

Excellent comparison that really puts mine in the shade.
Nice

What does "ohne Abspann" mean?
When I put the whole page into BabelFish it came back as "without bracing"????

Abspann = credit roll at the end of the movie. I usually list run times like that so that they can be compared more easily to other versions as sometimes there are extra logos at the end of the credits - and, of course, TV broadcasts don't have those end credits. So when the movie airs on TV, readers can compare the times and find out which version was broadcasted.

Thank You that makes perfect sense.

I'll go and check what the running times are without credits in the meantime:

The two versions I was comparing total running time including end credits is:

The French DVD, which is 1:32:47

La horde: Amazon.fr: Claude Perron, Jean-Pierre Martins, Eriq Ebouaney, Yannick Dahan: DVD

and the German Uncut BD which 1:41:32

Die Horde - La Horde - Uncut Version [Blu-ray]: Amazon.de: Jean-Pierre Martins, und Aurélien Recoing Eriq Ebouaney: DVD & Blu-ray

Right the end credits on the German UNCUT BD start at 1:34:12, the French DVD was someone elses so I'll have borrow it again but if it was the same end credits it would put the theatrical version end credits starting at 1:25:32 on the DVD.

Don't forget the 4% PAL speedup - 94 mins BD equals about 90 minutes DVD

But if the German version is indeed longer than the French cut, that would make for an interesting comparison
