Default Why TV Sucks...

Hundreds of channels and nothing good on.

Sound familiar? Then this is the thread for you!

Don't get me wrong, TV can be incredible. There are countless shows that are brilliant - from personal favourites such as Twilight Zone to Spongebob Squarepants (I love Spongey!). The Walking Dead, The IT Crowd...the list goes on and on. It's also a great way of bringing the community together with huge events such as the Jubilee and informing us all on what's happening in and around the world.

BUT it's also very, very crap! With shows that constantly insult your intellegence, awful comedies, soul-sucking reality TV shows and an unfathimable amout of annoying adverts. Urgh!

I don't watch TV and don't miss it in the slightest. TV DVD box sets for me!

The masterpiece known as God Bless America satirises this morbidly depressing state of television superbly before taking revenge on all these awful shows. Take a look at the exclusive clip that parodies these tideous tv terrors at;

God Bless America TV - God Bless America Official UK Hubsite - Cult Laboratories

What do you hate about TV? What shows do you find horrible? My Super Sweet 16? Snog, Marry, Avoid? Big Brother?

Or do you love tv - all of it?

Yea it's pretty shitty but there are some great shows on AMC Breaking Bad/Mad Men/Walking Dead. Used to love HBO but only like Curb your Enthusiasm now. American Horror Story as well sort of liked The River and Alcatraz and other JJ Abrams shows so it isn't great but AMC is my favorite channel.

Good TV is still out there, it's just been moved into ghettos like BBC4, lest someone learn something other than what Kim Kardashian had for breakfast.

I enjoyed a fascinating evening of Black Sabbath and British Metal on Friday.

You know for me it's not so much TV it's the commercial breaks that ruin it for me. They seem to come on much faster than they used to (A lot of the time a film would have only been on for 10 minutes or so when they have the first one)

I find now that with on demand, online streaming an dvd/blu ray I just don't have the patience for regular tv broadcasts anymore. It's a shame really, I used to love watching the telly but now I just find it a real chore.

i sky+ most of the shows worth watching, There's some great shows from the U.S like The Walking Dead and Game Of Throwns but there are some great british shows like the recent Hit & Miss which i found exceptional viewing if just for the incredible performance from Chloe Sevigny, but what i hate the most is the shit like Geordie Shore, The Only Way Is Essex and Jersy Shore type programs they don't give us entertainment and i've found my self being drawn towards stuff of Sky Arts and like Sam said, BBC4. It make you wonder why we pay a TV license when all they make is shit.

Unfortunately, the great unwashed masses out there just want to sit down and watch gossipy, mindless froth, not think about something.
Which leads to the aforementioned programmes being the norm as they are cheap as well.
I'm quite happy that series such as The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones are only enjoyed by more discerning viewers so they can be discussed with like-minded friends or on forums.
TV has always been 90% crap, in fact I feel that TV has had a golden age in the last decade or so, with Band of Brothers, Rome, 24, Lost, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones etc being of high quality.

There's a distinct lack of critical thinking in this country which has led to where we are now. People are famous for being famous. It's crazy. Reality TV is shit. Pure, unadulterated shit.

It's like the people who don't vote because they're not interested in politics, then moan and groan when the government makes life awkward for them. Then you should've voted, you ****ing moron.

Agreed. Though TV has always been in the majority dire, there have always been oasis' (?) of calm. Hit & Miss was certainly an oddity, though diminishing returns could ruin it I felt.
Breaking Bad is the only thing I'm looking forward to in the forseeable future.
And I got a "new" VHS machine at weekend, so I'l be digging out some old tapes regardless......
