I'm basing this on the original vinyl album but the 3-D cover of the Rolling Stones Their Satanic Majesties Request sends me boss-eyed whenever I look at it.

And, although I'm not a fan, there's Cannibal Corpse's artwork too.

That's the one. The album (as in vinyl) is in a gatefold sleeve which opens out to reveal an equally mind-blowing (and eyeball-busting) cosmic 'maze' in the centre, surrounded by bizarre photos of church tapestries, Eastern art, grapes (!), maps, flowers, an observatory, and a photo of Saturn floating above New York.

It makes you trip out before you even play it. The effect wears off then.

Two album covers that come instantly to mind are :

Spiritualized "ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space" which the cd came in pill packaging and included pharmaceutical style sleeve notes. They even made a limited edition of the packaging where each track came on one 3' cd so it was like a packet of pills.

and "We can't be stopped" by the Geto Boys. Dwarf gangsta rapper with his eye shot out being wheeled through hospital by his gangsta mates. need i say anymore...

Great idea for a thread iluv!

Some of my favourite CD artwork are Velvet Acid Christ's 'Between the Eyes' series of covers; not just for the covers, but also there is some superb artwork within as well.
