Default Night of the Living Dead?

As we are all fully aware, George A. Romero's classic is now in the public domain, and is available in a number of versions that have been released by different companies e.g. Tartan. The majority are limited in terms of extras. A few even contain the film in both colour and black and white. The 30th Anniversary Edition released the film with added new scenes.

We've never had a "definitive" version of DVD, packed with plenty of features. The Special Edition which was released by Contender is a travesty because the film is cut when it didn't need to be, even though the extras were quite impressive.

How would you feel about the idea of a DVD released by Arrow? Considering that they have released Dawn and Day (both excellent packages), it would be cool if they completed the trilogy.

Three discs dedicated to the three versions of the film, plus as many extras as possible, would be grand. Releases of this film in the UK have been disappointing.

Personally I got a cracking version on BluRay , plus the Synergy release and the double B/W & Colorised disc by HardGore so I would'nt be looking to buy another.

Plus its currently available in 3 versions in HMV on DVD at quite low prices , and in 2 boxsets , as well as being stocked in most Pound shop's, and a UK BluRay release available from Optimum , I dont see there being any profit in it for Arrow to release another version.
I think casual buyers would overlook it for the cheaper discs available .

PQ ways the BluRay's pretty much the best the films gonna look, and theres 2 versions of it available , so I think another dvd release would'nt sell that well.

I would say that hes talking about the Optimum release. Picture quality is outstanding but the picture is slightly zoomed. The newest blu-ray looks like shit and is cut.

I think both Elite's anniversary release and subsequent Millenium edition still probably rule the roost where Romero's gory groundbreaker is concerned.

The former version was once available over here years ago (got mine from HMV!) and it's high time NOTLD had a definitive DVD of it's own on U.K. shores. I have a handful of merely passable British releases but they all suffer considerably compared to the aforementioned U.S. editions.

I voted yes, even though I already have 4 releases of this on DVD already...

- Millennium Edition (released in 2002 by Elite)
- Trilogy of the Dead Edition (released in 2002 by ABUK)
- 3 Disc Steelbook Edition (released in 2006 by New KSM)
- 40th Anniversary Edition (released in 2008 by Dimension)

Being one of the best (if not the best) horror film of all time IMO, I would welcome a UK SE DVD release with an open wallet!

ive voted no, mainly because it can be bought so cheap and i think alot of people would just go for the cheapest version and that would probably be in poundland

I think your right there Slicer.
Most casual buyers are gonna see 3 or 4 versions sitting side by side and opt for the cheapest,£3 or mid priced at best which is around the 6 quid mark. (HMV)
Plus, like you say, PoundLand etc stock this and its usually the 2 film version (B/W & Colorised plus extra's) for £1 , so I think any new version would struggle to cut a profit.

A good film for ARROW to restore for the UK market would be Cannibal Ferox . There's a good profit in that title if they could get an extreme version by the BBFC. Those old cut VIPCO cannibal flicks sold extremely well.

Anyway, back on topic, sorta, has anyone seen the version of NOTLD with the added footage.?

If so, whats the extra footage off, i've always wondered what they shot and added.
Did Romero approve of this version.?
