Default Italian vs Exploitation

Hey folks,

I was wondering this morning what the attitudes were amongst shameless film fans. Shameless is releasing a lot of really good Italian exploitation films

so I wondered what was the divide here between italian genre cinema fans and fans of wider genre and exploitation cinema. Me, I am a bit of a purist, I love American stuff and I enjoy the occasional kung fu flick, but watch 99% italiana. so I wonder how many italiana fans we have.

thus the stupid poll.

I thought it was an interesting question. Especially since (I am not certain) but everything shameless releases is Italian thus proving there is after all a god and he thinks giallo is cool.

I did note for example a fanbase for Night of the Demon, so I wondered how many were full on Italiana- from a personal view its Italiana, I love the pacing, I love the styles, I love the politics even when I don't agree with them, and look at the real gems Shameless have brought us.

I like exploitation in general but most of the stuff I watch is Italian. It's not so much a personal choice as the Italians appear to be gods of exploitation!

Same here, while I like the odd American film like NOTD, I much prefer Italian, no doubt about it.
Good poll herman.

Yeah, i'll echo the others.. I watch all sorts - and even go through phases (been on a huge Japanese pinku phase recently..) but i'll always be watching, and returning to Italian cinema. It just doesn't get better..

I'll watch all sorts of other stuff too though.

I'm in total agreement with all of the above, kinda saves me typing a reply! Actually it didn't, did it? There's just such style in Italian genre flicks, and the actors are simply iconic, it's difficult not to love them.

I like all sorts of horror/exploitation,but as mentioned, the Italians were in a league of their own from the sixties, right up to the mid eighties......funny,the wife's friend's hubby is Italian, told him Italys best exports was not wine, olive oil, tiles, great food or football, but Argento,Bava,Fulci and Deodato.....wasn't a horror fan,but he knew exactly who I was talking about, saying that Argento and Bava were probably bigger than Spielberg in Italy in their heyday....Their tiles are top notch though.....

You've have to admire how quickly the Italians cash in on successful films.I'll always have a soft spot for Trash & pals in the Bronx Warrior films and as for Fulci,Argento & Deadato,I grew up watching most of their films on video in the mid 80s.Mario Bava also released some of my favourite ever genre films in the 1960s including the superb Black Sabbath among others.

An ex-girlfriend of mine was Italian. I would sit and talk to her parents about Argento, Bava et al for hours! They claimed they didn't like the films... yet the seemed to have seen them all in the cinema on their initial release! lol

As for the poll, exploitation first... place of birth second.
