Default Your thoughts on Blu-Ray

Just wondering, now with the ending of the hi-def format war nearly a year behind us, what everyone's take on Blu-Ray is. Has it done as well as you expected? Have you already got it or waiting for a certain price point? Or maybe not interested at all? Does the region-coding annoy you or is it a non-issue?

Cast your vote and let's hear your views!

Well, I luv dvds! Simple.

HD-DVDs are great too, the quality is better, generally speaking, and they have more space. But at £40 odd each, I'd rather stick to the good ol' DVD!

But, the one thing that I am not liking is the idea that soon film could go the way of music. I.e. downloads! Now that's not good!

It's Iluvdvds, not Iluvhddvds! It doesn't have quite the same 'ring'!

I got it with PS3 and to be honest the UK selection of BluRay discs is'nt great.

I think with cheap 'upscaling' SD DVD to HD machines available, DVD will remain the main format of home film for a while yet.

Saying that, Sony have publicly comitted to BluRay on PS3 for 10 years so who knows what'll happen in a couple of years, as it is a good format.

It needs the serious collectors aboard, ( Horror, Sci Fi etc ) but they wont consider mass support untill all the Region coding is sorted.

One massive plus point though. No Porn yet.

HD is here to stay and unless a new HD format becomes available that can out sell PS3 and BluRay Players combined, then BluRay will remain the first HD Format choice .

After having a Blu Ray player in the form of a PS3 for over a year now, I've only just started buying actual movies on that format recently. There's a big push to get the format into people's homes this Christmas, as such disks and players have hit a golden price at the moment. Bush have a sub £100 player on the market and disks are now available for 9.99 in some supermarkets.

Sane here Noss. I'm just really beginning to explore the BluRay side seriously now to, even though i've had Casino Royal for ages ( A gift from Sony ) though i've made good use of its upscaling abilities .

A lot of shops now do BOGEF at 19.99. I got hostel 1 with 2 free for 19.99 .

The best thing about BluRay on PS3 is that Sony are constently updating it via downloads to keep it up to date with new tech and vow to do so for another 9 years, all for 299.

iluv's, theres a HD DVD clear out every where with films going for a fiver.
HMV had The Fog plus many others for £5 and the average price of the 360 HD DVD Disc Player is £29 quid on the high street.

I plan on going Blu in the New Year, as it's reaching a price point now that I can afford.

I've already got an HD-DVD player - I know, I know, I picked the wrong format - but it's still a great upscaler. Which has left me with a handful of titles on a redundant format.

I wonder if Shameless have any plans for BluRay .?
Thers nothing close to the Shameless product on BluRay at the moment in the UK so it might be a nice little market for Shameless .

Though any shameless film I have , and i've 90% , looks fantastic 'upscaled' , so I suppose you could say Shameless dont need to go BluRay for pic quality.
Just watch NY Ripper upscaled to see what I mean.

HD DVD was a good format D.

Sony used the PLAYSTATION brand to install BluRay into homes , even if buyers were'nt in the market for a HD Film Player at the time they bought PS3.
I wasn't , I bought it for games, but it took me outta the future HD Player market as I was sorted.

Daft question, but are blu-ray players back-compatible - ie. do they play regular DVDs as well as blu-ray discs? If not, I can't see myself converting for a while. I must admit, I've still yet to see one in action!!
