Default The Sci-Fi Channel has been relaunched as Syfy!?

Today the Sci-Fi channel has been relaunced as Syfy in an effort to broaden their appeal! Are they serious?

Here is an article from guardian.co.uk:

Quote:
NBC Universal's Sci Fi channel is to relaunched as Syfy in the UK in April, as part of an ongoing global rebranding.

The relaunch as Syfy will take place on 13 April and will be accompanied by the premiere of US alien invasion series V and action drama Human Target. The channel will be given a new on-air look and a tagline of Imagine Greater.

The idea of the rebrand is to allow the channel to avoid being typecast as a sci-fi channel and move into new genres such as fantasy, supernatural, reality, mystery, action and adventure. In the US the channel has already rebranded as Syfy.

"The rebrand allows us to build on the fantastic heritage of the channel and loyalty of our fans whilst further broadening the appeal of our existing range of great content," said Laurence Dawkin-Jones, the UK managing director Universal Networks International, NBC Universal's channels division.

US rebranding took place last year but the UK has only been relaunched as Syfy today.

can't say i ever noticed with the UK Sci-fi, the only time it's on in my house is when my mother's watching one of those cheapo disaster flick and i occasionally catch the odd ep of buffy and angel, but don't watch it religeously it the same with zone horror, 90% of their movies are crap and only a few are good....

ER???
It still sounds like SCI-FI when you say it.
Hell 'SyFy' is not even a real word or term anyway.

So why does that mean the channel has suddenly become not mainly a sc-fi channel?
And why the hell not any way...are there any other sci-fi channels? Not in the Uk they're aren't.
But there are a shit load of channels that show reality, mystery, action and adventure.

Dumb friggin' suits.
I wonder how much some **** paid another **** to come up with this 're-branding'?
