I just wondered what everyone else thought of this Romero film. We all talk about the first 3 movies, but not the last 3. Some see it like star wars, with the final 3 being awful. Not me. I just love Land of the Dead. When I saw it at the pics, I wasn't blown away but over time I think it's aged well. Great casting and a wonderful soundtrack. I love this movie now. The gore is great and I love the scene where the dead cross the river.

I've only ever seen it at the cinema and didn't really like it. I've got it on HD-DVD though, so maybe I should re-evaluate

I've seen it twice, I liked it a bit more second time but I'm still not a massive fan to be honest and think it's a major disappointment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

| Been meaning to get it on blu ray as on have it on dvd. Worth updating just for asia argento. Defo has aged well. Same thing happened with Day of the Dead, everyone hated that when it came out because it wasn't 'dawn'

I think it's ok, a lot better than Diary but nowhere as good as the original trilogy.

Day is far, far better than Land. I think my biggest bone of contention was Romero's usually spot-on social commentary was very heavy-handed in Land. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Lots of things in Land just don't gel and the whole thing seems a tad rushed. I think the major disappointment for fans was, having waited so long for another Romero Dead instalment, he delivers this rather lackluster effort. It's okay and has some nice ideas, but as a whole it falls a bit flat IMO.

LAND does indeed get better with repeated viewing, but the politics are too obvious and the story is a bit daft(why don't the humans have any heavy weapons, apart from a big RV that shoots fireworks!!) a single M1 tank would make short work of a shambling zombie horde, and since when are humans incapable of running away? but even so, there is fun to be had here and there, and Asia adds much needed spice.

I remember thinking at the time that the whole thing stunk of stunt casting as well though, with Dennis Hopper chewing up the scenery left right and centre, and Argento, fresh from XXX and in the mainstream eye.

| Yep, and the Blu-ray looks quite nice indeed. ![]() Quote:
![]() Seriously, Land is not a masterpiece, but pretty entertaining popcorn cinema. ![]() My list: 1. Night of the Living Dead: a real masterpiece (not only within the Horror genre), stands up to repeated viewings. 2. Dawn of the Dead: great idea, great actors, great gore - but the original version is overly long! 3. Land of the Dead: flawed, but entertaining entry. 4. Day of the Dead: some really good scenes, but overall disappointing and annoying. Greetings! |
