I remember watching it then!
I watched the US version of Kubrick's THE SHINING last night, and it looks as dazzling as the European discs!

I personally prefer the US cut,as it sheds more light on Mr Torrance......

Also,it's opening scenes must be among the most doom-impending ever filmed.

The perfect horror film.

The sight of that car and it's driver travelling to his (future) doom is one of the most striking opening sequences ever put on film.
Kubrick was a genius.

It really is an exceptional film, I don't think of it as a Stephen King film because of how much is different from the novel, so much that apparently King himself hates it, hence the TV version that he wrote the screenplay for

And that subsequent TV rehash couldn't touch Kubrick's take!

Was there ever anyone else for the role of Torrance other than mad Jack?

Mr Cage or Farrell,if you're reading this, don't even think about it....

Oh I agree, her electronic collaboration with Kubrick on A Clockwork Orange was also superb.
Kubrick enjoyed tinkering with classical music, and in the case of The Shining, based on Hector Berlioz's take on 'Dies Irae',which was a Latin Hymn as far as I know.

Music and opening shots combined make for a foreboding opener!
