I always liked the book of "The Spy Who Loved Me." Bond is a practically a cameo in that one. Funny enough, I read the whole series in my teens also.

As a Bond fan, I really hate Casino Royale.

Not just as a Bond film, but as a film on the whole.

I found it to be completely un-engaging, over rated and boring.

I'd go as far as to say it's a bad film.

It's one of a few films, I've struggled to make it to the end.

I've fallen asleep to it twice!

These are some points I raised about casino Royale on Digital Spy:

Casino Royale is by far the worst.

It opens up with a needlessly black and white / pretentious opening sequence.

The opening credits look cheap and cheesy beyond belief and are coupled with an abysmal theme song.

The first quarter of the movie is taken up showing Bond chasing 2 or 3 people whom the viewer has not even been introduced to!

As such, the viewer couldn't care less about the chase scenes, because we don't even know who Bond is chasing!
The characters Bond chases aren't given any onscreen time before hand.

This is just one example of how the movie insists on it's self.

It's badly written. There's nothing to draw you in.

Then the rest of the movie is taken up with Bond in the boring casino. Which he leaves and go's back into so many times it's like an episode of Frasier or some other crap sitcom. I can just imagine the laugh track playing as Bond re-enters the casino, disappointing Le Chiffre yet again!

Much of it doesn't even make any sense.

Given the fact the chase scenes are in the first part of the movie, from a story writing point of view, it seems to be written the wrong way around!

Casino Royale is one of the few films I’ve had to force myself to sit through until the end. It's just so dull.

It's not a Bond film!

Personally, I think it's one of the best..

A welcome diversion from the cheesefest Bond had become and in essence, a lot closer to the books than anything since the early '60's, especially the card game which, for once, is actually based on something from the Casino Royale novel.

Personally it's my favourite Bond and I adore the theme tune too, one of the best in fact.
I love that it's a much closer style to the novels taking itself seriously as a crime action/thriller. Wonderful chase scenes, superbly acted and directed. Was a nice breath of fresh air after the abysmal, cheesey, camp and tacky Die Another Day (my previous comment was a little harsh)

I disagree with you on every single point.

WTF?

I really liked all the Brosnan films. Admitted Die Another Day was a bit daft in places, the stealth car for one but it was still an exciting action movie.

Tomorrow Never Dies has the best pre-credits opening of any Bond film (The Arms Bazarre on the Russian border). Closely followed by the opening of The World is not Enough.

To be honest I haven't watched them all in a long time and thought they were okay, but after watching Die Another Day I just lost all respect for any of them for some reason.
Alright, let's just aim my comment at Die Another Day then instead, as it's unfair to judge the others when I've not seen them in a long time.

I'm a huge Bond fan, and love all of them except OHMSS, and even that has some brilliant moments.

I actually think some of the Connery films are a bit overrated by critics though. After the first three they are not as good in my opinion. Probably next time i see them i'll reverse that opinion .

I'd take OHMSS over any Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan Bond movie any day.
