The Black Magic's are fun, even if they are not really related to each other. I'm a sucker for films about Black Magic, Voodoo and Witchcraft though.

Seeding of a Ghost is probably my favourite Shaw Bros. movie I've seen so far. I did a (very) mini review of it here, as part of my Halloween Marathon. The ending to it is pretty ****ed up too.

I love Corpse Mania - there is something special about Shaw Bros. films that other asian offerings seem to lack, they don't try to take themselves too seriously, which sometimes can be good.

I haven't seen many of the Kung-Fu movies, and the ones I have seen are forgettable and didn't really interest me... but then again I'm the guy who falls asleep in Bruce Lee movies...

I've bought most of my Shaw Bros films from HKFlix, and the amount of versions there are of some titles...

I really wish the UK market would start picking up some of the more horror-themed releases, though.

No I haven't seen Boxer's Omen. It sounds like it could be pretty good. I do like a good vengeance movie, plus throw in some black magic and you've got a winning combo!

Have you seen it?

I have been looking to get some of the shaw brothers stuff from Dragon Dynasty as they seem to have some good extras. The only reason I am reluctant to buy is cause I know if I do they'll bring the stuff out on blu-ray and I'll have to buy again.

I wouldn't worry to much about that .I know Celestial Pictures has mentioned that some of the SB movies will be gettting a BLURAY release but I don't think that many will be as the regular DVD releases of their movies are all ready dying off

Watched this last hadn't seen it before

enjoyed it far more than it's more famous brother, Bamboo House of Dolls. Should be seen by everyone with an interest in hong kong cinema but is very sleazy with tons of nudity and as every cliched WIP scene going in it.

I watched King Boxer the other day (much prefer the title Five Fingers of Death). What I was expecting was a nice looking film with some maybe slightly slow creaky fight scenes and a servicable story. Whst I got was a film that is now somewhere near my the top of my top 10 martial arts films.
The film is beautifly shot (and apart from being SD the transfer is flawless) and masterfully edited. An example of the editing is during a fight scene a guy is thrown into a table, we dont see him hit the table however cut to it when he has half crashed though it (there are numerous examples of this), cutting like this gives the action a real punch.
The fight choerography is fantatic too and I think it can easily hold its own againts more modern films. Plus there is a tonne of action there seemed to me to be a fight every few minutes and they are all great fun to watch.
With all this action you may think that the story suffers but the film is intically plotted with double crossing, great relationsihps and deep charaterisation. Everyone in the film is on top acting form and I didnt find myself getting mixed up with the charaters as can happen in some older kung fu flicks.
I dont think I have a negative thing to say about King Boxer it is a mastepiece from Shaw Brothers definatley part of the golden age of kung fu!!!
