Question Your Favourite Horror Film from 1984

1984 was a year for some brilliant horror films, but which one is your favourite? What makes it special to you? When did you first see it? Would you recommend it to the uninitiated?

Sometimes it's a hard decision to just pick one film (even when you're limiting it to a single year!), but my favourite film of 1984 is...

The Company of Wolves - Neil Jordan

Not only my favourite from 1984, but also my favourite werewolf movie, this surreal tale told in folklore stylings is certainly unconventional when it comes to your usual lycanthropic movie, but I'd definitely urge anyone who hasn't checked it out to do so. Dream-like, with some fantastic imagery this one is a clear winner for '84.

Trailer:

Runners Up:
Children of the Corn
Gremlins
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Razorback
Silent Night, Deadly Night
The Toxic Avenger

I'm not a huge Elm Street (or franchise horror in general) fan, so the original A Nightmare on Elm St, whilst easily the best of the Freddy franchise would be further down the list in terms of my favourite from '84. Craven's best film, for me, is the criminally under-rated The People Under the Stairs

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, easily the best of the Jason films, arguably the best of the series. Silent Night, Deadly Night is another cracker, and Gremlins is amazing.
