THIS WEEK @ CULT LABS: 28 DEC 2012

Celebrate Good Times. C’mon!

Christmas, New Years, surviving the apocalypse – all great reasons to celebrate! Add this edition of the Newsletter to that list and now we’re talking! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas with lots of cult film goodies, plenty of beer and delicious food by the truck load. Why not show off what twisted movies Santa brought you, over on this forum thread (created by member Antmumford).

The time between Christmas and New Years can be quite a strange period; a lull between two immense hangovers and a stuffed stomach. Thankfully, this newsletter is bound to excite you and tide you over until New Years.

#CodeNameUSA

This festive week saw the DVD and Blu-ray release of two excellent must see films. One of which is the action-packed and gripping war thriller, Code Name: Geronimo. From the producer of the multi-Academy Award winning The Hurt Locker and with an all-star cast, Code Name: Geronimo tells the story of the hunt for Bin Laden. If you haven’t already, be sure to order your copy from Amazon!

To celebrate its release we’re hosting a very special event over on Twitter. Later today (Friday, 28th Dec) from 3pm join us for a friendly film chat about some of the very best All American movies, from Saving Private Ryan and other war classics to Independence Day and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. There’s prizes to be won every half hour too! So, drop in this afternoon using the hashtag #CodeNameUSA in your tweets!

The Baytown Outlaws

Also released earlier this week was the superbly outrageous redneck action film, The Baytown Outlaws. One of the most fun films released this year, The Baytown Outlaws should already be upon your DVD shelves, fresh out of your player! With a cast made up of Billy Bob Thornton, Zoe Bell (Planet Terror), Clayne Crawford (24) and sharing similarities with The Warriors and Smokey And The Bandit, go and get this film! We cannot recommend highly enough.

The Very Best Upcoming Releases

But wait, there’s more! Check out some of these upcoming titles that we know you will absolutely love to pieces…

  • Berberian Sound Studio – Staring Toby Jones (who recently played Alfred Hitchcock in the BBC’s The Girl over Christmas), Berberian Sound Studio is a love letter to Italian Horror movies, that every fan of horror will love! Set in the claustrophobic sound room of a 1970s gruesome and gorgeously grotesque horror, this film wipes the floor with Amer and provides a fascinating and intense look at one of the most interesting periods of horror cinema. If you’re  a lover of Argento or Lynch, do pre-order this. You won’t regret it!
  • V/H/S – Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present to you the very best anthology horror in a very, very long time. Offering an outing just as much fun as Trick R Treat and about as scary as spending the night with a dozen sadistic psychopaths…in a haunted castle! Just for you, we’ve put together this great playlist full of sneaky peaks. Go on, go on, have a look see.
  • American Mary – Recently described as “The most startling and original horror film this year” by Chris Tilly, IGN UK, Universal Pictures (UK) is due to release the eagerly awaited body modification film, American Mary in cinemas on the 11th January and a week later on DVD and Blu-ray. Pluck back those crimson coloured rubber gloves, gown yourself in a midnight black PVC apron, it’s time to put your surgical talents to the test! Check out the film’s official trailer for more and be sure to head to the forum too!
  • Sinister – Coming to DVD, Blu-ray and Download on the 11th February is the film that terrified cinema goers this October. Labelled the scariest film of the year, Sinister sees crime author (Ethan Hawke) unraveling the truly disturbing horrors of an unsolved murder case. Jumpy, atmospheric and very, very scary. We dare you to watch Sinister again and let the evil into your house! Prepare to be terrified all over again!

Shameless Screen Entertainment

Just in case you missed it last week, those lovely people at Shameless Screen Entertainment released a special Christmas message just for Cult Labs forum users complete with this rather shameless pic. If the Italians had made a Snowman rip-off, it may have looked a little like this. Shameless have assured us they have plenty of fantastic releases in store next year, so keep your eyes on the forum for all the latest announcements!

Well, that’s it. We’ve come to the very last newsletter of 2012. What a year it has been! Here’s hoping 2013 will be even better!

Happy New Year everyone – have a good one!
